CREATIVE WEEKLY VOL. 3 LIMITED
Julio Montoro
(Based on 1 review)
In 2020, Julio Montoro decided to release a new monthly subscription in Spain to share his creations with all his Spanish followers. It was just a 1 year project, but it was a total success, with almost 900 Spanish magicians joining the subscription, learning 52 effects that Montoro specifically created for them.
Now, in 2022, Julio Montoro has decided to share this project with all his international friends in a really exclusive way.
Only 400 units will be printed every single month during 1 year. This means that only 400 magicians around the globe will only be able to know how Montoro's mind really works.
This is what you are going to get in Volume 3:
- Cheapest peek device: a peek device that will cost you 0 dollars to be constructed and will work the same as one of 50.
- La escucha: a really cool effect in which you will be able to guess the spectator card without touching anything, only by hearing the cards.
- El equilibrio: an impossible balance made with the items from your spectator. You are going to love the secret of this one.
- Gravity: an effect created by Julio Montoro back in 2010, where you will defy the laws of physics, creating an impossible gravity with your deck.
Every single month, you're going to learn how to construct 4 awesome tricks, which comes in a tutorial inside a beautiful packaging, which is numbered and signed by Julio Montoro himself.
You will also include materials that you are going to need to construct all four week's effects.
Of course, you will not only learn gimmicked effects, but also at least one impromptu trick every month.
Be one of the 400 hundred magicians that will ever be able to learn all these effects and collect all 12 months.
Get creative weekly in your magic shop before it sells out!

So I am delightfully surprised to find out about Julio Montoro.
Granted, so far I’ve only been privy to the product I’m reviewing here, so the sample size is statistically insignificant. But if this work is any indication, I’m going to be a huge fan. I’ve already purchased Volumes 1 and 2 of Creative Weekly.
Creative Weekly reminds me of the excellent Real Secrets subscription produced by Tim Trono, Michael Weber and many other creative geniuses. Every volume comes with a couple of effects, including whatever props you may need.
Volume 3 includes four effects:
Cheapest Peek Device is, well, exactly as named. All you need is a batch of business cards, some basic crafting tools and a bit of time to create the gimmick. The construction does not have to be perfect, so you can probably work up the gimmick in about 5 minutes. And it should last for a long time.
I love that it uses items we all have and are expected to pull out at some point. There’s also good motivation using a stack of business cards.
There are several methods for getting the peek. The most basic, which is the one I’d use, requires no slight of hand and happens during a completely normal movement. To me, this is HUGE. I’ve seen so many peeks that are supposed to be “natural,” but they always look like the performer is glancing at something that doesn’t need any attention.
There’s also a method for you “move monkeys,” but I personally don’t see how it’s any more deceptive from an audience perspective.
Next up on the video is my favorite: El Equilibrio, a (seemingly) impromptu balancing effect using borrowed objects. This is the only one that requires a gimmick (included). You’ll once again require a few minutes of crafting to create the gimmick. Once it’s created just put it in your wallet along with your credit cards and you’ll be good to go.
I’m a self-professed “balance effect” junkie. I’ve bought almost everything out there and use a good portion of my time on AskAlexander looking for even more clever methods.
One of the huge perks here is that ALL of the items used are borrowed!
Mine is already loaded up in my wallet…
In La Escucha, a card is freely selected by an audience member, placed back into the deck and shuffled (by them). The cards are then placed back into the card box. Even after this completely fair procedure, the magician is able to divine the card.
Let me be clear: with just a bit of attentive control, the entire procedure can be done in an audience member’s hands.
NOTE: you will need a “special” deck of cards that you probably already have in your magic drawer. If not, you can pick one up from any magic dealer for about $10.
I should also say I noticed a bonus opportunity. You can actually have the selected card vanish from the deck, without any additional work. So you easily change the effect into something akin to a “hallucination” or “altered reality” theme.
Finally we have Gravity, which is kind of like “static electricity” had a baby with the haunted pack. A card is selected, noted and returned to the middle of the deck. The performer generates some “static” on their finger and uses it to lift off the top half of the deck, cutting directly to the selected card.
You’ll once again have do a tiny bit of arts and crafts to get setup. The moves are simple and easy to do and the effect is really visual. The only drawback is that you won’t be able to hand out the deck. Normally this wouldn’t matter but, given this particular effect, could be problematic.
