Skeleton in the Cupboard

A tube, eleven inches high, decorated to look like a cupboard - the cupboard of a HAUNTED HOUSE - is lifted to show a SKELETON figure painted on three blocks. The skeleton is replaced correctly in the tube - BUT - in some eerie and mysterious manner the blocks re-arrange themselves, they get “scrambled” and when the tube is lifted there is the skeleton -” with his head tucked underneath his arm”!!!
The fun waxes fast and furious, for this can be repeated again and again. Finally, the head is taken away altogether and “hidden” underneath a handkerchief. A flick - and the block has VANISHED to appear in its place back on the skeleton, in its proper order at last!
It’s clean and easy to work, there are no loose shells to worry about and there is nothing to go wrong.

There are quite a few versions out there. It is a fun routine, not hard to perform and allows for good storytelling. I love performing it. It has become one of my favourite routines. Highly recommended!

I have used this is a couple of Halloween shows. It always gets a good response. I bought mine from a major dealer but don't know the origin. The blocks are heavy and make a wonderful sound when you drop them down through the tube onto the table. However, in my last show, I learned something. The blocks are not solid. Rather, they are laminated and the lamination separated.
Even so, it is a good effect. Now that mine is super-glued back together again, I'll continue to use it for Halloween shows. I haven't thought of any patter than would let me use it in regular shows.
