Join me on part 2 of this mental journey to de-boring-ify your mentalism. Why be boring when you can be Stone Cold Mental!

Foxy Spirits
The spectator chooses one of many questions written on a piece of paper and places it into a small box. Upon summoning the spirit, the box is opened to reveal an answer to the question burned into the very paper the question was written on.

The Houdini Code
In an attempt to contact her husband from beyond the grave, Bess finally receives the code that he (Houdini) left behind. During this journey beyond the grave, we see a small manifestation of Bess Houdini's ghost.

Demon-stration
The spectator freely selects a major arcana Tarot card. The selected card is revealed in a brilliant flash of fire. Oh, and by the way, a demon is summoned by name... a predicted name.

Existential Tarot
The mentalist stops furrowing his brow, removes his fingertips from his temple, and has a real, intimate moment with his spectator as he takes her on a journey from her past into her future. A future which he, of course has predicted.

Poker Bill
The mental master o' mystery (and money) hosts a game between two contestants (er... um... spectators) where one person divvies up a bunch of cash between the two of them. Even though the spectator made 100% of the choices, the miser perfectly predicts exactly how much money they each would end up with. And they get to keep the real money!

Bliss Abyss
Two spectators each take half of the deck and exchange cards without looking at them. Upon examining the two halves of the deck, it is found that both spectators each chose a red ace. Further it is revealed that they both chose the only red-backed cards in the blue-backed deck. Finally, it is also revealed that the two red-backed aces are indeed the only two cards with faces in the entire deck. The rest of the cards (i.e., the blue backers) are all blank faces. Everything can be examined.

Plagiarism
The mentalist displays a small stack of notecards with a variety of words written on them. They're shuffled, yet the order they end up in was predicted in advance.

Wordlet
The mind-messer-wither messes with the mind of a spectator or two by reading a thought of "Wordle" word. Truly just a thought. The spectator writes nothing down and tells no one of the thought.

Extra Sensory Pyramid
While discussing all things mystical, the spectator thinks of any ESP symbol. Then attempting to harness the mystical power of the pyramid, a small marble pyramid is placed on the table, and several ESP cards are placed beneath it into a pyramid shape. The spectator feels the power and finds all five ESP cards that match her thought of shape.

Extra Sensory Permutations
The temple-toucher digs up the strength to stop touching himself and, instead, tries to connect with his audience for real. In the end, maybe some connections were made, and he not only predicted which three ESP cards the spectator would choose, but also the specific order the spectator placed them on the table.

Overview

In regards to a magic book, I can’t tell you how many times I have read a review that stated “this one trick is worth the price of the whole book” or “this one effect was worth the price of admission”. Then, when I look at the name of the person who wrote that glowing tribute, it was typically another well known magician and no doubt a friend of the author of the book. When I see this remark, I chuckle to myself and say “yeah, I bet he really thought that”.
Well, I think this is the first time I will use that phrase "this one trick is worth the price of the book” and mean it sincerely. Stone Cold Mental Vol. 2 is a collection of 10 well thought out, fully scripted and assembled pieces of magic and 3 partially, half baked bonus ideas in which you can work with. Stone Cold Mental Vol. 2 picks up where Stone Cold Mental Vol. 1 leaves off, with and attempt by author Jeff Stone to help de-borify mentalism. By the way, would you like to know what trick I thought “was worth the price of the book’? Read on….

Effect

SCM 2 has effects that revolve around spiritualism, tarot cards, money, playing cards, word cards, ESP cards and other mentalism type props but are presented in unique ways that takes the routines to higher levels. Where most mentalism routines end, the routines in SCM 2 are just getting warmed up.

Method

The methods used in every routine are the old standards which have been used for time immemorial. However, where most mentalists stop, Jeff Stone plods on. For example, the PATEO force has been around for decades but almost everyone does it the same exact way. That’s not good enough for Stone though, he gives you a half dozen ways to make it more deceptive and less procedural. With just about every well know “trick in the mentalist’s arsenal”, Stone squeezes more juice out of it that even some mentalists would not recognize the method.

Product Quality

The book is 168 pages long plus 2 pages of an index in case you want to reference something. Each effect is presented the same way which is…what the public sees including a fully scripted presentation, the method which also includes any construction necessary for the props, QR codes for every effect for additional references, thoughts or links for raw materials and finally the history and crediting for every move or idea used in the effect. The book is riddled with QR codes for easy reference. In fact, there are 20 of them in SCM 2 alone. In addition, there are illustrations galore to make sure everything is perfectly clear. If that’s not enough, purchasers of the SCM series gets access to various apps such as anagram generators to forcing matrix generators depending on the book volume you purchase.

Ad Copy Integrity

Ad copy integrity is Jeff Stone’s 11th commandment, so you can bank on the fact that what he offers up in his ad copy you will receive what is claimed and more.

Final Thoughts

Finally, what was the trick I thought is worth the price of the book? In section 4 there is an effect called Wordlet, which is based on the game Wordle. Besides getting a fully fleshed out routine, you receive links to 4 apps that will allow you to print random Wordle cards, binary coded Wordle cards, premade Wordle cards and Alphabet cards, all included with the price of admission….THERE I SAID IT, ARE YOU HAPPY NOW ?
