Overview
It would be an interesting statistic to find out how many peek wallets are sold vs. how many are left unused after they were purchased. In addition, what are the reasons they are not used? After purchasing a few myself and not utilizing them I can probably expound some of the reasons why. First, my pockets are typically already full and I have no room to carry anything extra. Secondly, some peek wallets cannot function as a daily carry so it becomes a burden to have an additional wallet while others on the other hand are so large, they are cumbersome to carry. Thirdly, the peek is unnatural or if it’s an impression wallet, the impression is hard to read in anything but the brightest light. Finally, I think the biggest reason is fear of taking the peek. One must reopen the wallet for some inexplicable reason after the marked card goes in. For those fearing the peek, the Shelby Wallet has got to be the easiest, most natural peek wallet I have seen.Effect
The mentalist asks a participant to draw a simple object on the back of the performers business card. The participant on his own, places the business card face down between two credit cards in the performer’s wallet. The performer just shows the wallet back to front to the participant and slowly reveals his drawing. There is no reopening the wallet or struggling to make out a partial card or vague image.Method
The method is so simple it’s a wonder this wasn’t utilized more often. Without disclosing the method, it suffices to say that you do not have to open the wallet. Being that this wallet’s design is built around the new “minimalist” wallets that are carried around today, it does not open like a billfold or tri-fold wallet. All one has to do is pick up the wallet to eye level and show both sides to the participant, if you wish.Product Quality
The design of the wallet is similar to the “minimalist” wallets which are carried around today. In fact, it is like the wallet I carry. I don’t need much in my day to day activity so having my license, a couple of credit cards, a little cash and a couple of business cards is all I need. Like the minimalist design, there are only a couple of pockets as well. The only negative is that only one pocket is not dedicated to the effect; in which you would carry a couple of business cards for the participants to write on. This cannot be used as your everyday carry. As far as the peek goes, it is immediate and super clear. The entire writing surface of the card is visible. The instructions run about 20 minutes long and are basic. There are no elaborations on routines but I’m sure everyone has seen enough of them to understand how to present the effect.The wallet also has an additional feature for a second kind of peek which will allow you to peek a drawing without barely lifting the wallet from the table after it is placed down.
