- Marc Paul

"A wonderful routine that, like all of John's effects, is simple to perform but baffling for the audience. Highly recommended."

Overview

The Twins by John Morton is one of those, why didn’t I think of that type of effects. If you have been in magic for any length of time, you may very well have a poker chip type of effect. Most of us, take the props we have for granted, a poker chip is a poker chip, a card is just a card, etc. However, it’s obvious John Morton is not that kind of guy. What makes The Twins unique is its simplicity. The Twins allows a routine that normally would have required a great deal of thought and concentration or expensive electronics and brought it to the “average guy”.

Effect

Two black chips are shown to a spectator. They are told that the chips are actually twins with a psychic connection between the two. Now a white chip is produced and placed on the table. The spectator places one black chip in each hand and while the performer turns his head, they are to replace one of the black chips with the white and hold both closed fists out. The performer turns back and using the “twin” left behind he can determine with certainly where the black chip is hidden. No magnets are used.

Method

The Twins uses a specially prepared black chip. There are no complicated logic puzzles, odd questions to ask or electronics used. In fact, no poker chips were harmed in creating this effect. All that is required is a bit of audience management and a keen sense of observation.

Product Quality

Since ordinary casino quality chips are used in this routine there is no issue with those. The instructions included are typed but also has a link for video instructions as well. There is a brief history as to the origin of the effect and the handling. There are also instructions on how to perform impromptu without having the chips with you. All in all, a nice routine.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is accurate and the routine is surprisingly simple. If one struggled with other versions of the “Which Hand” effect and always wanted to perform it, The Twins might just be what you are looking for.

Twins gotta be one of my best purchases of the year. There are few better deals out there. What do you get for your $20?
You get three heavy duty poker chips. Two black ones and one white one.
You put the two black ones into the specs hands. One in each hand. You turn around and ask the spec to exchange one of the black ones for the white one on the table. You turn around and immediately know which hand holds the black one or the white one.
The name Twins suggests that the two black ones attract each other and always know where they are.
There are no magnets involved at all. And this is super easy to do.
Once you know the secret you can apply the principle to other objects.
You will learn to do impromptu effects and a kurotsuke style presentation.
The instructions are printed very clearly and provide a link to a video presentation and tutorial.
All in all, Twins is a great product
