Overview

Squid Cards (Stage Size) by Matthew Wright & Mark Bennet gives the performer an alternative to ESP cards if one wants to be hip and more relatable to the audience. The cards are patterned after the Netflix series Squid Games, which surprisingly was one of the most watched series ever produced. There are two versions of Squid Cards which are standard playing card size and Jumbo cards. This review is for the jumbo sized cards but the card quality and instructions are there same for both.

Effect

Squid cards are nothing more than ESP cards with an edgy look to them. As opposed to the standard circle, plus, wavy lines, square and star you get a circle, umbrella, triangle, square, star and a sixth joker card which is a gun with a blood spattered puddle. The sixth card does open up some additional possibilities such as Dowsing for Duplicates by Alexander Marsh.

Method

There is no difference between using these and any other ESP card set. The techniques are the same, it is just the look of the effect that is different, if that concerns you.

Product Quality

The cards are not printed on playing card stock like we are used to. The paper is more like report cover stock, heavier than paper but still flimsy to handle. I personally did not like the stock the product is made on. The jumbo cards are much larger than jumbo playing cards and are awkward in size to be practical. The paper stock is too soft which makes it difficult to push the oversized cards off into the other hand. Another thing I did not like is that the corners are not rounded which I think will make them prone to damage. The downloadable instructions are almost an hour long and offer three presentations. The first is Jazz Mentalism by Michael Murray which was half hour long, the second is Symbols Match by Harry Robson and the last is Pateo Prediction presented by Matthew Wright.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is correct and I can only see this as a benefit if you have a themed show and looking for something different. I personally would stick to the traditional cards.

Final Thoughts

One more very annoying thing which for the life of me, I cannot understand why they would make finding the video more difficult than it has to be. On the front ad insert, you aren’t given the URL link to the download. Instead there is a huge QR code with the password in bold. Why would they make it so one would have to read the QR code and email yourself the link to watch the video. On this massive front paper, I can’t fathom why they couldn’t print out the link.
