Devil's Mark

(Based on 1 review)
Finding new and interesting revelations for chosen playing cards is a challenge to be overcome by magicians far and wide.

Finding a way to perform a revelation using borrowed objects that are both natural and memorable is another important piece of the puzzle.

DEVIL'S MARK solves both problems and gives your spectator something to remember.

Using only a borrowed bill and a cell phone, you can seemingly show a chosen playing card imbedded in the fabric of the bill itself.

It's a revelation in an impossible location, taken to the street and then to another level altogether.

WHAT YOU GET

You get a DVD and some gimmicks that you can use to make what looks like a watermark of a playing card appear on a borrowed currency bill.

WHAT I LIKE

I wanted to like this effect. The gimmicks appear to be of good quality, the method looked good, it was clean and angle proof. The explanation was very good. However…

WHAT I DON’T LIKE

I tried and tried and it didn’t work very well. I tried different bills and different locations on the bills and I found it VERY hard to read the “watermark”. I couldn’t tell that there was any playing card watermark on the bill. I was able to faintly see the border of the “watermark”, but not able to make out the playing card. In the video, the watermark looks very good. I tried it under several different lighting conditions and nothing. I tried different gimmicks with different card reveals, perhaps some are easier to read than others, still nothing. I was using the newer US bills, because I don’t have access to older style bills. Perhaps that is the issue, but it just didn’t work for me.

AT A GLANCE

Skill level required: 4 of 5. You will need to be able to secretly affix the gimmick to the bill and you will need to be able to force a card.
Audience management skill required: 3 of 5. Some audience management skills needed, but not too difficult
Performance angles: 360 degrees
Reset time required: You can reset in front of your audience
DIY time involved in advance: around 2 minutes. You will need something that you probably have around the house or you can get at an office supply store.

VERDICT

Sorry, it didn’t work for me.

Suggestions

If you want to take a chance on this, perhaps it works for different currencies, or perhaps you want to use it on a blank piece of paper. I tried it on a blank piece of white paper that was around the same thickness as printer paper and it did work. I think the bills now have far too much going on that prevents this gimmick from working.
