(Based on 1 review)
Trevor Lewis ESOLC "that's CLOSE UP" -- a Great little Book of Amazing Close-up items from Trevor Lewis, edited by Philip Willmarth. You'll be one of the few "in the know," as most performers have been unaware of this book for a long time.

Contains Close-up Routines using many types of items -- Cards, Coins, Benson Bowl, Tamariz Rabbits, Sponges and more!

Highly Recommended for all close-up performers.

Contents include:

Chapter One: Focus on Cards

It's in the Bag: Card is selected and returned. Deck is wrapped in plastic food bag. Selected card penetrates the bag.

Trevor's Technique: Double Riffle Control: 2 card control

Card Shark Two: Card is selected and returned. Card case represents a shark and runs toward the helpless swimmer deck. The deck is riffled and the selected card pops out. Well, half the card pops out, in a jagged piece -- the other half is found in the shark (card case).

The Mine Detector: A selected card found by a mine detector (made from wood and bang wand). When the card is turned over, its back now has magician's name and phone number.

Reflections: A card is peeked at by a spectator and revealed. Shows how to make a special peek deck that can be shuffled.

Coin Selector: A coin vanishes and locates the selected card.

Monte Plus: Nice "in the hands" Monte using standard cards and bent corner ruse.

Monte Plus Twist: As above, but the key card is held horizontal.

Monte Plus Elmsley: Can use as an intro to others.

Trevor's Technique: A Zarrow Zwindle. Poker hand idea.

Chapter Two: Double Focus on Cards

Add on Plus: Alternative to Braue Add On move.

Le Carte Lewis: Three cards are peeked at. The Magician removes three cards and fans them to each spectator, each denying their card is there. Suddenly the selections appear!

Trevor's Swivel Force Swindle: A force

Three Cards Across: Two spectators are each given 10 cards. Three cards travel from one to the other.

The Five Card Mental Trick: A variation of Dai Vernon's 5 Card Mental Force.

The Trevor Lewis Second Deal: In 4 Lessons

Fake Middle Deal: Simulation of the middle deal using seconds.

Spectator Finds a Card: Three approaches to have a second spectator find the first spectator's selection.

Chapter Three:

The Para-Die Prediction: Card with pictures of 2 dice are shown, each adding up to a different total. Spectator selects one, and it matches a prediction.

The Perfect Match!: Two dice are shaken in a large matchbox. End total is predicted.

May I have the Envelope Please?: Envelope utility

Borrowed Bill Burning Bright: Application of envelope utility

Trevor's Benson Bowl Routine: With a bowl, 4 sponges, and a toy plastic dinner roll. Three sponge balls appear beneath the bowl. The balls travel from hand to bowl, and eventually the roll is discovered.

Chapter Four: Focus on Coins

Trevor's Coins in Tumbler: Four coins to cup routine. No gimmicks.

Coins Through the What Else: (Table!). No gimmicks

Me-Too Matrix: Sympathetic coins/four coin assembly. No gimmicks.

Hole Card: After several comedic false starts, a coin is pushed through a too small hole in a card.

Chapter Five: Focus on Comedy

Coincidence: Strips of paper are torn and eliminated until only one remains. It matches the number of cigarettes in a jar.

The Blazing Match Box (Book): Gimmick to light matches.

The Matchless Prediction: Book of matches is shown with some already burnt. Two cards are selected. The 7 card selected matches the 7 burnt heads! The 8... doesn't match anything. Suddenly the book of matches catches on fire, the fifteen matches matching the 7 + 8 card combo.

The Fetsch Force: Use for above trick.

A Little Light Humor: Match gag.

Watch!: Coin tossed hand-to-hand turns into a watch.

Blow Die: Die is "blown" up.

The Razor Blade Trick: Stack of blades string themselves. Lots of squeamish comedy!

Broken and Restored Spectacles: All borrowed.

The Sharpshooter: A hole is shot in a die at the selected number.

A Funny Puzzle: Crossword gag.

Chapter Six: Focus on Dealer Effects

Flog - A Sponge Ball Routine: A full sponge ball routine based on golf with comedy patter. Splitting a ball, in the spectator's hand, and a "FORE (4)" finish.

Die and Domino Divination: Dominoes used to match a die selection.

Tamariz Rabbits Rabbits Rabbits: Comedy bit using the Apple cards.

The Brema Nut: Nut off string routine using a spring-close ring box.

Commercial Chop Cup routine: A quick, straightforward non-insulting routine with double load.

Tip from Trevor: Restaurant/hotel tip.

Overview

"That's Close Up" is a collection of tricks performed by Trevor Lewis. As great as a performer Lewis is, this book does his work an injustice.

Effect

Residing in the 98 pages of this soft cover pamphlet are 41 effects Lewis performed. There are a couple of chapters on card effects, coin effects, his version of dealer effects and several others.

Method

Naturally with a book like this the methods run the gamut of sleight of hand, gimmicked cards and other standard magic methods.

Product Quality

Unfortunately, the book is so poorly produced I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, unless they like the challenge of reading microscopic print and trying to make out what is in over exposed and blurry photos. It wasn't hard enough reading such tiny type and scrutinizing poorly photographed hands, it incredibly tedious to read through the poorly written, outdated language and jokes. If magic books were written today in this manner, I would own none. Thankfully, they are not

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is accurate and to their credit, it does mention the poor print quality of the book. Overall, I found nothing of significance to make the effort of pouring through this book worthwhile.
