Overview

Elegant and sophisticated is the magic of Robbie Moreland. The Touch DVD is a collection of three of Moreland’s favorite routines. If you consider yourself an advanced intermediate to advanced magician, not only will you get three well thought out routines but they also may inspire you to rethink your performance pieces in order to add “that touch” to each and every one of them.

Effect

The Touch is comprised of two card tricks and a coin trick. The coin trick ends with the well-known glass through table that most have us had seen at one time.

Method

The methods utilized are within the reach of an advanced intermediate or better magician. One would have to be familiar with breaks, in-jogs, pinky counts and pinky breaks, pop up moves and palms just to name a few. Familiarity with some card and coin technique is a definite must if you want to perform these effects or at least be willing to put in the time to learn them.

Product Quality

The setting for the performance and explanation is not lavish. The photography, lighting, sound and film quality is more than acceptable. The trick is performed at a table while Moreland is standing and the explanation follows suit. Each move is explained enough for an understanding but not delved into. Basics such as the key card, finger breaks, in-jogs and other moves are courteously explained in case someone who is unfamiliar with the terms and techniques happen to purchase the DVD.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is fairly accurate but I do have an exception with one comment. Though it may be hyperbole and artistic license there is a quote “Watching this will not only make you a better magician, but it will also make you a better creator and performer.” Taking it in the context it is stated, would watching a tennis match make be a better tennis player? I think practicing whatever you are pursuing would hopefully make you better, not watching. However, in light of that, Moreland does try to convey how to achieve “the touch” when it comes to performing magic.
