This is a different presentation (kind of) for an old "trick". Years ago Mac King appeared on a television special in the US and taught everyone how to do three different effects throughout the duration of the special. One of those was magically slicing a banana without peeling it first.
That is exactly what you are getting here, except the presentation uses foam nunchaku (sometimes erroneously called "numchucks") that start out looking like a big wand. The product photo shows you exactly what you are getting. The ad copy, in all its minimalistic nature, is 100% accurate.
The instructions included are a single sheet printed on both sides, they are clear and easy to understand. The presentation is very basic but if you perform for children, the built-in slapstick humor can be played for a lot of laughs.
You can go beyond what the instructions suggest, which is that you hit yourself a good number of times "accidentally" (thus the slapstick), however if you do not want to convey even the most remote idea of "violence", you can accidentally knock other objects off your table or ruin other items. Use your imagination. The presentation given will not be for everyone - even children's performers, but it would not be hard to come up with your own.
The prop itself seems like it was very well made and, if it should ever break, I think the things used to make it would be very easy to find in craft stores and maybe one part in a magic shop. I am not sure that will normal use that this thing should ever fall apart on you and if anything, you might have to replace the white tape on the ends that make it look like a "wand".
Just a little suggestion from a classically trained culinarian: He suggests using a paper clip for the preparation - I would suggest a toothpick or a clean cake tester instead, especially if you plan on letting anyone eat the banana at the end. Who knows what is on the paperclip or where it has been?
One more point that I was tickled to see not related to the effect or the product: He gives a tip for peeling the banana which is actually the correct way (is there "really" a wrong way? Kind of, yes) to peel any banana.
If you like the presentation possibilities with this prop then you will probably get some use out of this. $14.95 might be a little high because I do not see the materials costing anywhere near that to produce this and you are not getting any "new" presentations or methods in reality, but you could still do worse.
