Flashy is Sans Minds Magic’s mobile phone vanish system. I tried using an iPhone 6 Plus and also an iPhone 6 and found that it was not the strongest method, at least for phones of that size.
With Flashy, the performer stands in front of the spectators and holds his phone in between his two hands. When his camera flashes, his hands smash together and the phone vanishes. The performer then opens up both sides of his jacket and no phone is seen. The performer’s sleeves can be rolled up, but a jacket must be worn. A heavy jacket and a very dark shirt are required to be able to pull this off.
With this purchase you get an excellent 31 minute DVD with top notch production that is typical of Sans Minds tricks. The DVD comes with materials to make the necessary gimmick. Construction of the gimmick is easy and takes about 2 minutes at most. The gimmick is not a revolutionary idea and it is adjusted for this trick.
The DVD instruction is taught be Herman and it is very detailed and excellent. It has live performance from SM’s Jason Yu. The DVD teaches the main handling and also has an alternative phone-to-object instruction.
There are some angles to be aware of and you will need your audience standing directly in front of you. Depending on how you use the gimmick you may not want to have spectators on one side of you. The downside is that there is a larger than I would like potential to be exposed. Very dark places may also not be the best locations to perform Flashy as the screen of the phone can give you away, even if you have your screen dimmer all the way down. Also, due to the method and clothing requirement, the path of vanish is not always straight and foolproof which results in you being busted.
I tried this a few times with the above-listed iPhones which may have been too large and heavy to work as good as it needs to work…at least for me. It was enough to make me realize that this trick is not for me with an iPhone 6. I was concerned that the phone may fall, and that is a possibility, but that did not happen. I will try it with a smaller phone before I completely write this off.
The ad-copy is accurate as is the promo video. Nothing that I can point to that is misleading.
