Milo & Roger

Brandon, Arthur

Hermetic Press

(Based on 1 review)
Milo & Roger were one of the greatest comedy magic acts of the twentieth century. Two boys from poor families, Arthur Brandon and Roger Coker, growing up in Ohio, discovered a shared passion - magic - which would lead them from midwest America to Hollywood, Seattle, Japan, China, Thailand, Europe, New York, Las Vegas, Paris and dozens of other locations across the globe, where they performed for 46 years in some of the worst and most of the best places in the world. Arthur Brandon takes you through this oddest of odysseys, populated by a rich and quirky cast of characters, from the eccentrics of small-town America to the lunacy of Hollywood and its stars. As he and his partner Roger worked their way up the rungs of show-business success to become one of the most sought-after comedy magic acts in the world, Arthur chronicled their struggle, from near starvation and death to life among the famous, wealthy and privileged. One of the most entertaining autobiographies ever written. Hardbound, 432 pages.

This is a great read.

Is it for you? Well, that will depend on what you want out of the book. It is not a book of tricks or presentation ideas, it is simply a book about the dreams, struggles, and life of two guys not too much different than the rest of us.

What makes this book so compelling is the simple, straightforward writing style. As soon as you read the first chapter, you are hooked. The book is so rich in history and hilarious anecdotes it is tough to put down. Any magician that has worked even a few gigs will identify with these two as they chase their dreams across the country.

There is nothing in this book that you are going to use in your shows, no tricks to learn, no deep philosophical waxing, only a delightful true story that will paste a smile on your face. This book could easily be made into a movie than everyone would enjoy.
