Overview
Coil by Jay Sankey is everything you wanted to know about nail bending….almost. Coil is replete with information about using, vanishes, appearances and switches, all with using nails. It has just about everything you need to put together a routine with the gimmicks provided but is lacking one thing, an actual routine. You are provided all a litany of moves which are well covered but you will need to be a bit creative in cobbling your own routine together which is not necessarily a bad thing.Effect
The performer approaches a group of people. A nail is introduced; it can appear in various forms depending on how one wants to start. After it is shown, the nail bends, straightens, curls, appears or disappears. Anything can happen to that nail as the performer wishes. Coil is a quick magical effect that can be a short or as long as the performer wishes. It can be a quick introduction or a multi-phase routine depending on the creativity and skill set of the performer.Method
With Coil, you are provided with a few gimmicks such as a straight nail, a headless straight nail, a bent nail, a circular nail and a couple of "special somethings." With this gimmick you are shown numerous handlings which are the tools you can use to assemble yourself a multi-phase routine. As with most Sankey products you will resort to the few standards he uses such a false transfers and palms he creates most of his magic with. If you own more than just a couple of Sankey products, you will recognize the pattern he uses over and over again. Product Quality
What you will receive are a few well-made gimmicks and a 45 minute tutorial DVD. The nail gimmicks are chrome plated which in itself not only provides an appealing looks but makes them feel good to hold and handle. The tutorial is replete with primarily moves you can do. The first 15 minutes is on setting up and using one of the included gimmicks (a standard magic gimmick). For experienced performers this may be a bit much but if you were just getting into magic, the repetitiveness of the basics would be very helpful. In the 45 minute DVD, the only thing lacking was a full structured routine. It would be up to you to assemble for yourself the bits and pieces utilizing the various suggestions he makes.Ad Copy Integrity
The product delivers all that is stated. The gimmicks are very well made and the handling instructions are thorough. Keep in mind with each release by Sankey, the handlings are taught as if it was the first magic trick you purchased.
