Adrian Guerra

Vernet Magic

(Based on 2 reviews)
In 1994, Adrian Guerra (Ramblar) the mnemonica expert won the first prize in Card Magic at FISM in Yokohama.

Since that time he became the most successful professional magician in South America. With these two acts he performs in the most exclusive places and corporate shows. He made his reputation and his living with these wonderful routines.

For over 20 years he has long kept the secrets of his acts, effects and techniques closely guarded until today. Now you have access to all the details of these two professional strong card acts.

ACT 1: Stand Up Card Magic
With this Card act you can amaze an audience from 20 to 200 spectators.
It includes: "Instant catch", "Named card from pocket", "Stop trick in the pocket", "Two cards from pockets", "Impossible ACAAN" and the most spectacular final: "Miracle in the air".

ACT 2: At the table
An entire close up act you can do with any shuffled deck of cards, with a strong opener and the most outstanding finale.
It includes: "Triumph", "Thermagic", "Obedient cards", "The mirage: impromptu pocket index" (only this secret pays the entire price of the DVD), "Total coincidence", "Four of a kind" and the greatest final of all: "Everything in Order".

Overview

This is a DVD with two performance sets demonstrated by Adrian Guerra in front of a small live audience in the Vernet studio.

Both sets require proficient knowledge of a memorized deck. You just cannot do these tricks without knowing a stack backwards and forwards. He uses the mnemonica stack, but it doesn’t matter what stack you use.

The effects are not easy to execute for beginners. This DVD does not contain tricks for beginners to perform, but absolutely it is for beginners to watch and learn and enjoy.

Guerra is a world champion card magician and his ability to get to any card in the deck based upon thousands of hours with a deck in his hands is a requirement. You have to be ultimately comfortable in front of an audience to execute these tricks which require some real guts to do because this is not a set of never fail tricks. He relies heavily on manipulating cards and jazzing right in front of the audience all the while he rapidly patters away.

I tremendously respect Guerra’s skill and presentation ability. That being said, many of the tricks feel very similar in the first set – perhaps too similar.

After watching each set, Guerra explains the tricks and demonstrates how he makes the magic happen. Unlike the performance set, the explanatory section of the DVD is dubbed in English so I did not have to be distracted by reading subtitles as I was trying to learn the tricks.

It is noteworthy that the second set is absolutely killer. He has the audience set up a borrowed and shuffled deck into stack without anyone knowing what he is doing. There is some totally amazing card magic in the second set. I need to watch this set over again - it really got me hooked!

Effect

It is not just one effect, it is an entire set! Like I said before...start memorizing!

Method

The method requires supreme fluency with a stack, guts and the ability to think on your feet! Again, knowledge of a stack is mandatory!

Product Quality

The performances are in Spanish with English subtitles which is very distracting. I would have preferred to have English dubbed over the Spanish so I could pay more attention to the presentation instead of having to read the words and at the same time. The video production is acceptable but not anything special.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is fair and accurate. There is not much to the ad copy and you must watch the entire show to understand why he has a superb reputation.

Final Thoughts

I greatly admire Guerra's enthusiasm and skill and really enjoyed leaning his sets.

PROS

This is an excellent DVD where Adrian shows both his stage show and his close-up show.

The effects are outstanding.

The instruction is very good.

CONS

These are not easy effects to master. You will likely have to put in some serious practice.

VERDICT

This is “real” card magic, but it’s going to take some practice. There are easier ways to perform many of these effects, using gimmicks, but if you want to put in the work, you’ll be ready for a show with just an ordinary deck of cards.
