Overview
iLink by Jay Sankey will either make your heart skip a beat or make you swear off all Sankey magic henceforth. I would think most people will fall into the latter category. With the tons of magic I had purchased over the years, there was only a couple of times that I was so incensed by what I was sold, I swore off buying anything from those creator’s again, and I never did. The reason was not the routine but the quality of the gimmick(s) provided. I have no problem supporting creators for their ideas or the construction of their gimmicks but I do mind being sold something that “was very difficult to source” and it turns out to be 2¢ worth of material I can find by the roll in a hardware store. The expression is “Caveat Emptor” (let the buyer beware) and consider that when purchasing iLink.Effect
The performer takes a pair of borrowed headphones (white wire only) and demonstrates a series of links, unlinks and magical penetrations. When done, the headphones are returned to their owner unscathed.Method
The method involves a gimmick and some sleight of hand work. If you are familiar with moves typically used for Ring On String, the moves for iLink will be similar. Product Quality
Do not envision some James Bond style gimmick. The gimmick provided will be incredibly basic and downright disappointing. The DVD has 50 minutes of handlings very similar to ring on string moves. The instructions are complete and thorough but are more designed for the intermediate performer.Ad Copy Integrity
Ad copy is typically written from the perspective of the spectator and considering that, the ad copy would be correct. I take exception to the wording describing the gimmick, it states as follows “with an ingenious gimmick”. When I read the word ingenious, I envision something totally unique. Although using this particular item was clever, I would not consider it ingenious. As a purchaser of magic, I think anyone (even Sankey fans) would be disappointed opening the package a seeing what was provided for the asking price. Sankey has created a lot of great magic and in many cases the gimmicks provided were well designed and worthy of purchase. Unfortunately, iLink is not one of them.
