MagicTao

(Based on 1 review)
A spectator chooses one horror movie from a list of 10. You make a prediction and then reveal how you have read their thoughts when you tell them which horror movie they chose. The spectator has a completely free choice and you are always able to predict their chosen horror movie. This is very easy to do with no memory work involved. Carry 'Sight' in your wallet and you are 'good to go'.

You get:

A DVD with full explanations
A card with a list of horror movies
Special something with no memory work required

PROS

I didn’t think I was going to like this before getting it. The reason is I have a ton of magic to choose from, and I knew the method of this and it is not a method that I particularly like. However, after getting this, I can see this going right into my wallet. I am impressed with what Dee has done with a couple things with this age old method: First, the quality card really makes the routine. Second, he has a slight variation to the classic method that I think works very nicely.

This effect uses an age old method. This method is described in many books and you could create your own routine by knowing the method. One of the beauties of this effect is it comes with a really nice card printed on plastic that goes right into your wallet. The patter is about you getting this card at a Horror film festival. I would suggest that the value is in the card. It is really nicely made.

The method is a slight variation of the age old method. Dee has created a very slight alteration to the method. I think this tiny variation goes a long way in making this a very nice routine. See the suggestions section for a presentation idea that I think even further sells the effect.

The explanation is very thorough and very good.

While I am generally not a big fan of this method, I really like the subtle little variation he incorporates into the classic method as well as the superb quality card that goes right into your wallet. I also really like his patter as it perfectly justifies the effect. I too am a big horror film fan, and the card is introduced as something that was given to you at a horror film festival.

CONS

Is the effect true to the ad copy? Well, this one is a bit difficult. Technically, I would say that the ad copy is accurate. However, I don’t think it takes away from the quality of the effect, and it is important for the potential buyer to know that you will have to do some fishing to get to the prediction, based on an age old method. However, I think this is one of the best applications for this principle that I have seen in a long time.

VERDICT

While I am generally not a fan of this method, I really, really enjoyed this effect and I think you just might as well. If you liked what you saw, then I think you are going to like how he uses the classic method and I think you are going to love the card!

Suggestions

I really like Dee’s patter and the premise of the routine. When I have done this sort of routine in the past, I tell the participant that I see random letters as they attempt to transmit the word or words to me. I write the random letters on the back of my business card or piece of paper. This method also allows me to modify the one letter I get wrong. For example, if I get a letter "A", I might write it to look like either an "A" or an "H". I show each letter as I write them. If I am wrong with the "A" that looks like either an H or an A, I just show the letter and they will see it as an "H". If I need to make it look more like an "A", all I have to do is connect the top. At the end, the word is created from what looks like an anagram of letters transmitted from the participant to me.
