Overview
If you purchase enough magic from Jay Sankey, you will realize that he can extract a ton of magic out of any move or sleight. Tight Spot is no different. With false transfers and shuttle passes, Tight Spot as well as many other effects released by Sankey will give you an education on how to make the most out of simple moves. Tight Spot which is a Karate Coin style effect, addresses some of the issues I have had with effects such as finger through coin. Although both premises, the finger through coin and the finger through key are profoundly unbelievable, Tight Spot tempers the impossibility factor and makes it more acceptable.Effect
The performer produces a metal key. It is shown to and inspected by the spectators. At first the key vanishes, then a melts through the pants leg into the performers pocket. It is retrieved and shown to be like rubber and then the performer’s index finger clearly is pressed through the tiny key ring hole and then dropped onto the waiting spectators hand appearing completely normal. Was it magic or an illusion? They will have to wonder as they walk away.Method
The method involves not only some well-orchestrated sleight of hand but by using a well-made gimmick as well. Basic coin moves such as a shuttle pass and false transfers are cleverly coordinated and are adapted slightly for the use of a key, are the main building blocks to create this multi-phase illusion. Product Quality
Two keys are provided, one regular and a matching gimmicked key. They are nice, highly polished keys and will last just about forever. The gimmicked key is nicely made and is designed to fit virtually any hand. The DVD is 47 minutes long and covers the multi-phase routine. The handling is broken down into vanishes, transfers, the penetration and finally the dropping of the original un-gimmicked key into the spectator’s hand. Half of the DVD is Sankey espousing how he thinks about magic. The explanations do not start until 16 minutes into the DVD. The explanations are brief but enough for one to learn the moves.Ad Copy Integrity
The ad copy is pretty straight forward. As with any self-written ad copy, there is some artistic license as to how “amazing” the effect is. If you are familiar with the Karate Coin effect, Tight Spot certainly has more to offer. Final Thoughts
This is a nice effect. The keys come uncut and may upon scrutiny appear to be unusual since there are no “teeth” cut into it. You may want to take this to where they make keys and have them cut the key to alleviate any after thoughts as to why the key was blank.
