Double Take
Richards, Paul
Elmwood Magic
(Based on 1 review)
You display a red back deck of cards. The spectator is asked to select three cards from the deck and each card is removed. The cards are seen to have red backs and still the magician slowly changes each selection into a BLUE BACKED card! No extra cards are used, only the three selections are in your hands! You now pick up the remainder of the deck - and they have all changed to blue backed cards!
But before the spectator can say the words, "Can you change them back?" - the cards change back to the original color!
It's ultra visual magic that is easy to perform and - best of all - it never fails to garner serious jaw dropping reaction! Double Take uses no rough and smooth, no high tech moves, and the deck can even be used for multiple effects before the big change occurs!
Also includes a bonus Ultra Fast Change in which the deck apparently changes color with just a "wave of your hand"!
Comes complete with Bicycle gaffed deck and detailed instructional DVD with additional ideas and insights.

I have been using this one for a while now and I have gotten a lot of great mileage out of it. I have also seen Paul do this live and it hits hard every time - even on magicians and yes, even when they watch it three or more times in a row!
The secret is so diabolical and simple I wish I could tell you, but alas, I cannot.
As for the main effect, which is a color-changing deck, it is very easy to do and reset is almost instant - it can be as simple as a cut, depending on what you do with the deck as you use it. It cannot be examined, but there are plenty of subtle things you can to with the individual cards in both colors, along with the very fair displays, which will take care of that issue anyhow.
That is one of the very best parts about this deck - you can use it for quite a few different effects before you do the color change with nothing to worry about. Technically speaking you could even perform some effects after you do the color change, but that would be anti-climactic.
Along with the deck you will get an instructional DVD, the sum of which is very typical of DVDs from Paul Richards and Elmwood: Clear and crisp audio and volume, great production quality video and excellent instruction. Paul teaches you how to do the basic handling and then gives you a couple of additional ideas, including a couple different ways to change the deck back to the original color. The ad copy is also 100% accurate - you get exactly what you read (or see, if you watch the trailer), and then some.
Just a side note: The effect described in the ad copy where the spectator(s) choose(s) three cards is just one way to get into the color change of the deck - the basic handling if you will. Once you start playing around with this you will find all kinds of different things to do with it, and different ways to get into or affect the color changes.
For some of the extra ideas, including the bonus Ultra Fast Change (which is VERY nice, by the way and still not terribly hard), you will need some experience in handling cards - for anything less, this effect can be done by beginners and experts alike.
One thing the ad copy does not tell you but which has no bearing on much of anything: When you get this product you will either get a deck that starts red and changes to blue and back again, OR, you will get a deck that is blue, changes to red and back again. What this all means is that if you normally use red Bicycle decks in your work, you would want one that starts as red. The same goes for if you normally use blue-backed cards in your work. Either way, if you ask your dealer(s) nicely I am sure most will happily send you whichever one you want as long as they have it in stock.
This effect is definitely strong enough to stand on its own, but if you combine this deck with other ideas, such as a deck switch, you can really do some very strong and memorable things with it.
If a color changing deck appeals to you and will suit your style, this is version is one of the easiest to perform and certainly one of the most versatile available. Very strong and I highly recommend it!
