Overview

The Slippery Shell gimmick is a Steve Dusheck creation. It is basically an expanded shell with half its rim removed. This allows you to slide the shell off the nested coin instead of lifting it. The benefit is a more natural appearing handling of the coins in play. The deficit is that being half of its rim removed, it would obviously appear that there is a gimmick in play so careful positioning of the coins are needed. This version is the US quarter version.

Effect

Coins Across and Three Fly are two of the most popular routines that use a shell. Both of those and more can be performed with the Slippery Shell. One of the more unusual routines using s Slippery Shell is a routine by BJ Bueno called Digital Dissolve which is a streamlined Copper / Silver routine.

Method

The method as already alluded to is a gimmicked coin. A traditional coin shell is further modified by eliminating half of the rim allowing the coin to slide off the coin below. A Teflon disc is adhered to the inside of the shell to eliminate any noise in the process.

Product Quality

The product is well made as far as the shell is concerned. The quarter size is not a popular size used in coin magic being it is so small. Most coin workers would at least perform with a half dollar. There is a video on the back of the box to an entire library of coin performances and explanations. Although done very quickly, the videos are well lit, clear and the sound is fine. One benefit to getting the entire library is that you can watch how all the other gimmicks work as well.
