Twizted

Jones, Eric

(Based on 1 review)
Eric's take on twisting the aces. Four cards are used, one at at time the cards turn face up in progressively more visual, and impressive ways. The routine is modular in the sense that Eric provides several ways to do this effect surrounded, and each revelation can be interchanged with any other to suit the style of the performer.

Eclipse - The least demanding, yet most visual effect on the DVD! Two cards are shown front and back and without any cover at all, one of the cards visibly turns face down, and then instantly turns face up again while educating the spectator about eclipses.

Twizted Grasshopper - WORTH THE PRICE OF THE DVD - Eric collaborates with underground magician Rahat to bring you their version of Paul Harris' Grasshopper effect. A FREELY chosen card is openly placed between two face up court cards and set aside. Two other court cards are shown front and back and set down. The selected card VISIBLY vanishes from between the two sandwich cards and is found between the second set of cards.

Sandwich With A Twizt - Featuring the Passless Pass - Eric teaches a very easy to perform handling of the classic sandwich plot where two court cards visibly sandwich a freely selected card without ever coming near the pack. You only need to be able to control a card on the top. Can't do a pass or sidesteal? No problem. Eric teaches a new move called the Passless Pass that will change the magicians control cards.

Extreme Twizt - A face down card is openly placed between two other face down cards. The card visibly turns face up twice, and the cards back even changes color in this angle proof rendition of Paul Harris' Bizarre Twist.

All necessary cards provided.

Eric Jones’ Twisted is five effect exploration of a gimmick developed by magician/dealer, Mark Mason. The title effect is Jones’ variation of Dai Vernon's Twisting and Guy Hollingworth's Waving the Aces that captures the visual elements of both effects. I found Twisted and two of the other effects to be solid visual magic but more on that in a moment.

In collaboration with KozmoMagic, Jones has released a nice package consisting of the Mason gimmick variation, three matching regular cards and a 90 minute DVD. Jones starts the disk with a well credited, personal history of his work on the effect. He traces his work from the seldom seen Gaeton Bloom’s Escorial Three Card Monte to Mathieu Bich’s Easy Twist to Michael Paul’s Twist 3 and finally to Mason’s gimmick design. The Mason gimmick is nicely made and if you follow Jones’ care instructions, should last. It's not a gimmick you can easily make yourself - not without much patience and practice.

As I mentioned, the first effect, Twizted, is a variation of Dai Vernon's Twisting and Guy Hollingworth's Waving the Aces. The gimmick makes the effect cleaner, more visual and well within the reach of most magicians.

The second effect, Twizted Grasshopper, is one of my favorites. A selected card is sandwiched between two cards and set aside. Two other cards are shown. The selected card vanishes and is found between the second set of cards.

Sandwich with a Twizt is another sandwich effect where a selected card is found between two cards. The learner is taught what is called the “Passless Pass” which to me and I believe Jones’ participant looks fishy. Good effect but skip the “Passless Pass.”

Extreme Twizt is a rendition of Paul Harris’ Bizarre Twist. I believe that the last effect, Elipse, gives the gimmick away and isn’t very magical.

All in all, Twizted package offers a few very magical and visual effects along with a gimmick that can be further exploited and mined.
