(Based on 2 reviews)
INSIDER is the next step in the evolution of 'impossible location' effects featuring a whole new world of extraordinary magic and mentalism with a wonderfully ORDINARY object: a window envelope.

With the brilliant INSIDER gimmicks you can cause playing cards, written predictions, dollar bills, business cards, photographs, paper napkins, baseball cards, book pages, letters, file cards and even a SIGNED PLAYING CARD to visually appear, vanish and transform inside a legitimately SEALED envelope!

The sealed envelope can even be trapped INSIDE A CLEAR PLASTIC BAGGIE... and the incredibly visual magic STILL happens.

The SPECTATOR even opens the envelope and removes the object.

  • Give away the envelope as a killer souvenir OR use the SAME ENVELOPE again and again for many performances.
  • Includes 10 specially-designed envelopes (3.5 inches x 5.5 inches) and innovative gimmicks
  • Full-length DVD featuring 12 insane magic and mentalism effects including 'Signed,' 'Outer Layer,' 'Incremental,' 'Cocoon,' 'Foto,' 'World Bank' and more! (Read complete descriptions of the effects at the bottom of this page.)
  • Perfect for street magicians, stand-up performers, mentalists and even birthday party magicians.
  • Super portable. The envelopes are small enough to fit in the back pocket of your jeans.
  • Requires only BASIC sleight-of-hand.
  • Can be performed in the nude. No awkward 'slides,' rubber cement on envelopes, or secret tears are involved.
  • No refills required. (Close the flap of the envelope with a paperclip or sticker instead of licking it.)
  • ADDED BONUS! Jay shares his 'MARKED BILL CONVINCER' for the first time ever. Unlimited applications for magicians and mentalists.

SOME OF THE INCREDIBLE EFFECTS TAUGHT ON THE DVD!

SIGNED!
A Holy Grail of magic. A myth made real. A freely selected and SIGNED playing card visually appears inside a legitimately SEALED envelope! Hand out the envelope as an IMPOSSIBLE souvenir with the signed card STILL INSIDE!

INCREMENTAL
An astounding 3-phase mentalism routine involving a correct prediction and a torn corner, with the prediction suddenly vanishing and visually appearing inside the sealed envelope!

OUTER LAYER
The 'jewel in the Insider crown.' Any small object (selected card, borrowed bill, etc) visually appears inside the sealed envelope while the envelope is trapped inside an ORDINARY clear plastic baggie!

WANDERER
After closely examining the envelope, a spectator licks the flap and seals it shut. The spectator then sticks an ordinary postage stamp any where they want on the back of the sealed envelope. The stamp then mysteriously melts INSIDE the sealed envelope (the audience sees it happen through the window) and the envelope is immediately handed out for close examination. Truly surreal.

FAMILY REUNION
A card is selected from the pack. A moment later, the three other 'mates' to the selected card visually appear, trapped inside the sealed envelope.

WORLD BANK
Out of all the countries in the world, one country is chosen by a spectator in an especially fair fashion. With just a wave of his hand, the magician causes a bank note FROM THE SAME COUNTRY to appear inside the sealed envelope in eye-bursting fashion. Featuring Jay's brilliant 'Punch Drunk Force,' this routine is a mind-bending combination of magic and mentalism.

FOTO
The spectator selects a card and the magician holds it up for the spectator to see. Then while the spectator concentrates on the image of the magician holding up the card, a color photograph of that exact same image 'magically arrives' inside the sealed envelope. A mind-blowing effect complete with an awesome souvenir.

KID STUFF
Jay shares the secrets to using 'INSIDER' at your next children's party, complete with a great gift for the birthday boy or girl!

COCOON
After a corner is torn from a business card, and held by a spectator for safekeeping, the torn card is found inside a sealed pay envelope that impossibly appears inside the window envelope! (Think of it as a wildly VISUAL 'nest of boxes' routine!)

UNBOUNDED
This exceptional combination of mentalism and magic makes for a perfect 'closer.' A selected page from a magazine or paperback novel mysteriously disappears from the book and visually appears inside the sealed envelope. Both the book and the envelope can be examined by a forensic scientist.

Running Time Approximately: 1hr 45min

In basic terms, Insider is a way to make a card or other flat object appear in a window envelope, an envelope that would seem too small for the object to be anywhere else in the envelope. Sam Berland had such a trick and David Regal had something like this too. But Jay Sankey came up with a different method that is classic Sankey brilliance.
Every version I've seen before Insider meant that the magician had to remove the card from the envelope. Not so, in most of the 12 handlings that Sankey provides in a really informative and fun DVD.
(This is a rare DVD that makes you feel like you know him for real. Lots of good material, well-done.)
For example, one basic effect would be a chosen card that you tear off a corner of. You give the spectator the corner and vanish the card. Holding a window envelope which can be seen to be empty, you make a one-handed fan of cards and pass the fan over the envelope. Instantly, a card, missing a corner, appears inside the envelope. The spectator tears open the envelope and finds the card which their piece fits exactly.
There are all kinds of possibilities, illustrated on the DVD and you'll come up with others as you play with the super-cool gimmick.
A few handlings will involve some simple sleight of hand but most do not.
Check out the whole DVD before you put together the extremely simple gimmick because there are a few choices to make.
Without tipping the method, let me just say Jay's method is similar to the old joke about not raising the bridge, but lowering the water.
You will LIKE this and use it in all kinds of ways.

"I shoulda brought a sandwich." That was the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw the chapter menu for the Insider DVD. Faced with 25 items to choose from, I knew it was going to be a long haul long haul to watch the entire thing. Thankfully, this review will be quite brief by comparison.

That's because Insider is pretty damn good. Similar to his other products, Sankey exhaustively (if not exhaustingly) covers every aspect of his creation in more than sufficient detail. While this disc has a bit of goofing around, it's pretty much a breathless romp through the possible uses of the Insider gaff. The production of the disc is great (practically Oscar-quality compared to other magic DVDs) and you should definitely feel that you got your money's worth.

There are a couple things you should know, however, You'll need to set aside a few minutes to construct the gaff. Instructions are provided on the disc, and Sankey even includes most of the materials you need in the package. Oddly, though, the color of the supplied material isn't correct. Perhaps Jay is one of the approximately 10% of men who are color blind. (Or, maybe I am.)

Also, for maximum impact, you may end up destroying one envelope with each performance. While the envelopes are not gaffed, you'll want to buy replacements (about 80 cents each) from Sankey because they're thoughtfully designed. If you're especially frugal, Sankey does give tips that let you re-use each envelope several times, but you'll be forgoing some of the effect's impact if you cheap out.

Sankey says he set out to create an "impossible location" effect that was simpler, more visual, and easier to pack than other tricks in this genre. I say he succeed. And not only that, thanks to his attention to detail and in-depth discussion, Insider is a good and useful product too.
