I remember when I was about six, I always loved watching butterflies fly as I imagine almost everyone did, at least to some extent. Through this effect you should be able to connect with your audience on a deeper level than they realize. Because of this, I think the price of $48.50 is a wonderful gift to magicians.
Not only does the DVD cover the effect extremely well, it dives into the history and methodology of the trick. What’s also great about the DVD is that Jeff McBride teaches you how to make variations of the effect and explains different ways that you can add this effect to your repertoire. The DVD alone is well worth the money because the quality and scripting of the DVD is so good.
The props are put together very nicely. The fan is very well made, the “secret stuff” is good, and the butterflies themselves are easy to use and maneuver.
This trick takes practice (maybe 3-4 hours to get down the basics of the effect) and if you’re not a stage magician, do not fear, for Jeff McBride has not left you out! He adds some very thoughtful advice and ideas on how to implement this effect in different situations. He also makes a point to say that this effect started out as a piece of “street magic”.
I only have one problem with this effect. It does not include all the materials you will need to follow along with the DVD, but you probably could just pick them up at a local craft store for about $10.00. Even with that minor flaw I still really love this effect.
My final rating: 5 butterflies out of 5.
