This is a DVD on how to make a wonderfully genius card box that allows you to peek information inside. It can be used in conjunction with a stacked deck, or as a straightforward peeking device.
Marc Spelmann goes over everything from the construction of the case, to the routines you can do with it. However, he tends to repeat himself many times throughout the project. For example, he keeps repeating the same book and DVD recommendations throughout the DVD. He also tends to go overboard with explaining every little thing he does in the presentation. His script and this DVD need a serious edit. Like many mentalists, he goes on and on about justifying every action and explaining what he claims to be doing. The length of the DVD is an hour and a half, and it easily could have had 30 minutes cut out without us losing out on any important information.
The DVD is also in this sort of black and white, grayish kind of tone. It gets quite tough on the eyes at points, another negative for you to be staring at the screen for this long. Why they decided to do this is beyond me. Peter Nardi also stands in for the performances and most of the explanations. He adds nothing to the proceedings. That said, none of this makes it impossible to learn the information, it just gets in the way.
And once again price come into the mix. This is thirty-seven dollars and fifty cents. For that much money you should at least get a gimmick included. Whether this is worth the money or not I’ll leave up to you. In my mind, I can think of several mentalism DVDs that cost less and offer more useful information. I’m not saying the gimmick is useless, I’m just saying it’s a little overpriced.
I’m giving this product Two and a Half Stars. While the gimmick is four star quality, the price and DVD brought the rating down.
