Ghost Vision

Andrew Mayne

(Based on 2 reviews)
Andrew Mayne, creator of Gut Buster and ghostbills, presents a 21st century paranormal effect. Using an unprepared borrowed camera phone the magician reveals spectral images of ghosts and premonitions from beyond.

Your spectators watch the display as a dark silhouette crosses the room in real time. A thought of word, image or card appears in a photograph of a spectator's hand. A haunted face appears in the shadows.

Ghost Vision is a spine-tingling effect that allows you to use a borrowed portable electronics device to create a digital séance that can be saved as photo or movie. It's easy to perform and works with most camera phones.

24 minute widescreen DVD including an extra bonus effect: The Haunted Keys

Comes with everything needed to perform (cell phone not included).

The magician uses the camera in a borrowed cell phone to capture the image of a ghostly figure. Beyond bringing back pleasant memories of playing the Fatal Frame video games late at night, I think this effect has possibilities.

Trouble is, I was able to guess the method after a single viewing of the video demo. As performed in the video, the handling of the borrowed phone was a bit hinky and it seemed to point in the direction of the method. But I don't think that's an insurmountable problem. If the effect were presented in a larger context, as opposed to "I shall now perform a miracle with your cell phone," the handling might not be noticed at all.

It seems to me that the key to performing this effect is to catch observers off guard, so they're not in the puzzle-mind mode of watching a magic trick. Translation: Don't use this effect to reveal a chosen playing card or any of the other gimmicky suggestions in the instructions. To do something so obviously magic-tricky would be passing up what could be, in the proper circumstances and with some care and planning, a marvelous opportunity.

This is a wonderful close up effect that will sends chills up the spine of every person you do this for. The best part is the way you can leave them with a lasting souvenir of your performance if they use their phone as a video camera during the effect. They can watch the clip over and over and show it to whoever they want to and no one will be able to explain what you've done. On top of that, it will get your name out there as they ask where they taped that ghost walking across their screen.

This also comes with the ability to make them see a skull and even a chosen card if you'd like. While these are nice additions, I'd prefer to use this strictly for the ghost effect.

You are pretty safe with angles though you can't do it completely surrounded. Clean up is quick and easy as well. The spectator won't suspect a thing.
