MASTER DECK BY MARC OBERON REVIEW
PROS
Marc’s Master Deck system is fantastic. It is an indexing system that enables you to pull any card out of the deck in seconds. It will take a little bit of memory work, but if you create a killer routine for this, then I think it is worth it. The system is definitely much easier to learn than a traditional memorized deck. The deck is not examinable, and you can’t hand it out to be shuffled. However, if you do a card trick involving a shuffled deck, then do a deck switch, and do a killer routine with this deck, I think you have a powerful combination.
This is very versatile for close up, parlor, or stage shows. One caveat is you need to keep the deck in a pre-determined order. So, you would be best served by switching decks to do a different effect before or after using this deck.
CONS
It might be easy to overlook the real advantage of this deck. At the very end, he suggests that any effect could be made stronger through a named card instead of a selected card. If you think about nearly any card effect you perform, you might be able to do it more powerfully with a named card instead of a selected card.
Also, it has been said by some that the deck is not versatile, or a "one trick pony". A couple thoughts on that:
1. You could easily ask a spectator to shuffle a deck of cards, do a deck switch, pretend to memorize the deck, and go into a series of different revelations. This takes the multiple card revelation plot to a whole new level.
2. You can take advantage of the system for an effect and then have the deck shuffled and go on to other card effects. Once shuffled, the deck can be used as a regular deck.
VERDICT
An excellent system that opens up a whole new world of magic!

Sadly, there actually is some 'memory work'. Not a huge amount, but enough to ensure that this deck will give you at least a little bit of grief.
The idea itself is brilliant, and Marc does a great job of explaining how to use the deck, and how to perform some reasonably amazing tricks.
However, without giving away the gimmick, this deck is totally unusable for any other trick other than the tricks based around the 'name a card and I'll find it straight away' principle.
The deck cannot be shuffled, it cannot be handled by spectators and even fanning it to show the faces is a bit iffy. (Unless you are performing for the inebriated).
So while a well thought out concept that looks great on paper, this really is a one trick pony.
But that's just my two cents.
