Imagine a spectator selects a card, returns the card to the deck, then places the deck back into its case and closes it. Now, picture the magician removing the selected card instantly through the closed box without even opening it! No kidding!

There are no suspicious moves to worry about; and the entire effect happens in the blink of an eye!

This is just one of many possibilities with Free Fall.

Includes routines, handlings or ideas from: Aldo Colombini, Jerry Camaro, Steve Dobson, Mats G. Kjellstrom, Martin Lewis & Steve Brooks.

Free fall is not so much a trick as it is a utility gimmick that makes a number of tricks possible. When Steve Brooks (of TheMagicCafe.com fame) first marketed this gimmick in 1995 each gimmick was made by hand. Today, he has the gimmicks specially made for him and they are now more versatile and easy to use. If you already own the original version then you know what I'm talking about and you may want to consider the upgrade.

The basic effect is this: A spectator picks a card, returns it to the deck, suffles, and the deck is returned to its case. The magician, empty handed, instantly removes the selected card right through the card case. Other applications include three effects by Aldo Columbini which allow the spectator to handle everything up to the final revalation; a version by Jerry Camaro that allows the selected card to be handed out at the end; and an offering from Mats Kjellstrom where the card is plucked from the spectator's pocket.

The most compelling uses of this gimmick, however, are offered by Steve Dobson and Martin Lewis. In the Dobson effect a prediction written on the card box proves to be wrong but the writing magically changes to the correct card. Martin Lewis contributes a color change and a vanishing deck box. These effects are, in my opinion, what make the gimmick worth getting as the previous uses could actually be done without the gimmick, though arguably with a (very) slightly diminished effect. (See Exit 51 for more insight. In fact, this gimmick would be great for use in that effect.) Also, it should be noted that the card cannot be signed by the spectator.

If the above effects interest you, especially the Dobson and Lewis effects, then you should buy this. I don't think you'll be dissapointed. Three and a half stars.
