Live Show

2 Rope Trick

This is a practical multi-phased rope routine based on the original "Sand-Sational" from George Sands. It begins with an amazing production of "ends" of the rope, and then transitions into a beautiful two-rope sequence. As ever, Oscar takes you through the routine step by step, giving all the nuances and touches on how to present this to a family audience.

3 Rope Trick
This is an exceedingly clever way of dressing up Professor's Nightmare. Rather than doing the classic trick in the same old way, Munoz shows two sets of ropes: one set has three ropes of equal length and the other set has three ropes of different lengths. Under test conditions and as visibly as possible, Munoz causes the sizes of the ropes to transpose.

Linking Rings
Learn this elegant version of the Linking Rings from a master of the classics: Oscar Munoz. Oscar's routine uses just three rings and it showcases several original, visual penetration sequences. The routine is best suited to music or light patter, and it's the perfect length for a family audience.

Billiard Balls
The billiard ball manipulation effect is a classic, yet good, PRACTICAL routines are almost impossible to come by. Oscar details a fun, comedic yet elegant routine that incorporates three color changes, a production sequence, and an elegant finale. He details all the props, moves, and routining that you need to perform this routine. Best of all, his routine is designed to look amazing from far away and quite close, so it's perfect for family shows or parlor audiences.

Balloon Swallow
One of the most popular parlor routines EVER is taught to us by Oscar, with all his professional touches. There is hardly ANYTHING that a magician can do to elicit a stronger reaction than to seemingly swallow a long balloon. This is the method to do it safely and entertainingly.

Overview

Live by Oscar Muñoz is a collection of tricks possibly as odd as the Zoot suit he wears performing them. Each trick is a classic in their own right but although well performed they seem oddly juxtaposed on this DVD set. With no visible theme running through the show it appears as if it was more of a variety act than a magic show.

Effect

Several classics of magic are performed and explained on this 2 DVD set. Tricks like the linking rings, the balloon swallow, a billiard ball manipulation, 2 and 3 rope trick, a silk trick, a linking balloon trick and a balloon mouse in bag trick is bolstered by a complete video of his act and an interview with Kosmo.

Method

There are no new methods discussed or divulged but only his particular take on classics we have seen time and time again. What is performed is only his takes on these classics. If you are all familiar with any of these routines, then you will probably not get much out of this set.

Product Quality

The filming, lighting and sound was average in quality. Muñoz wears a very colorful purple zoot suit and yellow shirt which mirrors the coloration of the set. One of the first things that strikes you is the carnival style tone which is not bad but different. The DVD is set up with a performance and then an explanation. This is repeated on all of disc one and part of disc 2. On disc 2 there is a full length filming of his regular show and an interview with Kozmo. The interview was probably the least interesting out of it all.

Ad Copy Integrity

Although the product delivers all of which the ad copy states there are other sources which would go more in depth for each one of these tricks. If one would want to learn classics such as these there are other sources that would cover each one more in depth.

Final Thoughts

The asking price of $50 is pretty steep for what this DVD set delivers. I think there are a lot of other choices in that price range that would deliver much more.

A video you will enjoy watching!

I wanted to take my time before writing this review. I was already a fan of Oscar’s and this set made me love him even more. I had fun watching his full show, his character is fresh and funny. There are some technical problems with the show but Oscar handled them like a pro. In fact, his interactions with the tech person got some of the biggest laughs of the show. You get to see Oscar’s full family show and he treats us to full detailed explanations of the following:

Billiard Balls: Now personally I don’t care for billiard ball manipulation; however, in Oscar’s hands it’s a whole new ball game. This routine is fun, comedic and yet elegant at the same time. It’s perfect for family shows!

3 Rope Across: This is a clever presentation of Professor's Nightmare. Three same sized ropes and three different sized ropes change places across the stage. With a few kids and the right presentation I have seen this effect rock the house.

Balloon Swallow: This is a popular routine and is a strong effect. Nothing too new here but it does round out the DVD.

2 Rope Trick: This is a fun one. It’s a practical multi-phased rope routine based on the original "Sand-Sational" routine from George Sands. This is a great personality piece and Oscar’s shows through. For a family audience it’s a powerful bit of magic.

Linking Rings: One of the best linking ring routine I have EVER SEEN! It’s short sweet and elegant. This three ring routine is perfect for family audiences. I have adapted and adopted a version of this routine and added it to my family show. You will enjoy this!

Oscar also teach three bonus effects including a linking balloon effect, a vanish and reappearance of a silk on a rope and the mouse bag. All three are great effects and make for a rounded out DVD set.

So with all that said why didn’t I give it a full 5 star rating? The big reason I gave this set 4 starts was the interview. Just when the interview was getting good it was over. I wished that character development and show order/structure was discussed. Aside from that I truly enjoyed this set and I hope you do too.

I have recently had the pleasure of spending some time with Oscar Muñoz. And I mean it has truly been a pleasure. Oscar is everything you would want in a magic friend. He's kind, giving, intelligent, hard-working and extremely funny.

I had certainly heard his name before, but I was unfamiliar with his work until I received this 2-DVD set. To say that I was impressed would be the understatement of the year. In fact, speaking of this year, I would say this is the best product I have seen so far this year!

It's obvious that Oscar is a working pro. The polish and amount of detail in these routines can only come from hundreds of performances.

If you've read the product description, you may be thinking to yourself: "but I already know / do all of those tricks." Guess again, mi amigo. You're probably right in a generic sense, but Oscar has work on every one of these routines that I suspect you have not seen and will most likely tool the **** out of you.

Case in point: I can't stand the linking rings. In my 30+ years as a magician, there is only one routine that I vividly remember (Scott Cervine, in case you care). With Oscar's, I now have two. Not only are the visuals amazing, it comes with a beautiful, heartfelt script.

In case I haven't been clear enough: these are routines for workers.. What's even better, they can play for any audience from children to "active adult communities." Oscar works a lot of school shows. Solid entertainment, pure and simple.

Plus you've got Kozmo and his team behind the camera and editing software. Everything is explained in great detail, to the point that you could start rehearsing this material immediately (notice I didn't say perform immediately… don't be stupid).

The icing on the cake: you get two bonuses. The first is Oscar's full 50-minute live show, suitable for showing your non-magician friends. Second, and maybe more interesting to us, is an insightful interview with Kozmo. Do not miss this!
