With the enclosed precision made gimmicks and instructional DVD you will soon be unleashing on your audiences one of the strangest moments in close up magic!

Your spectator chooses a card from the deck. You display a blank card with a large hole in it, claiming that is in fact a 'Portable Hole'. With a flick the hole suddenly jumps onto your spectators selected card: Then, in a slow and deliberate moment of total weirdness you begin to drag the hole across the spectators card, back onto the portable hole card - This has to be seen to be believed! Then, you hand both cards to your spectator for examination - There is nothing to find! This is 'Nothing to Transit!'

I've always loved the idea of a portable hole. I'm sure it stems from watching Wile E. Coyote as a kid. I've worked on many variations using coins and a circle of felt (originated by David Roth, I believe). This is a new way of presenting the concept using cards.

The best part, for me, is that I was fooled. It's so crafty that you can fool yourself while you're doing it. The routine is crafted with several stages, each more visually impressive than the previous. Did I mention that you end clean? Bonus.

You're supplied with everything you need, except a regular pack of red-backed Bicycle cards. You'll also need an envelope or wallet. You're supplied with an envelope that will work just fine.

Another thing I love about this effect is that all of the gimmicked cards are added to the deck naturally as you introduce the "portable hole" card. This means you can insert the routine into the middle of your show. It also makes the routine suitable for walkaround.

This is no knuckle-buster, but you will need a few sleights in your arsenal. First, you'll need a force. You can use whatever you want. If you don't have one (or want a new one), Dave teaches one on the DVD (one that will probably fool magicians who use a riffle force). You'll also need a decent double lift. I can't stress this enough. You'll be doing several of them, sometimes with another card in the hand that's turning the double.

I mentioned using this for walk-around. The reset takes seconds. It's not automatic and you can't do it in front of the audience, but it's really so fast that there's no reason you couldn't do it while walking to the next table or group of people.

The DVD includes an alternate handling that seemed even cleaner and easier than the main routine. Of course, no DVD would be complete, it seems, without a bonus effect. In Sink Hole, a hole punched in one card moves to a signed, selected card.
