Chick Pan

Classic

Viking

(Based on 1 review)
The magician displays a thin pan to which he adds liquid and bits of paper. He sets the contents on fire, and in order to extinguish the flames, covers the pan momentarily. Upon removing the lid, the pan is seen to contain a live baby chick (or guinea pig, or two or three mice). In lieu of livestock, you can produce a pan full of candy or anything else you care to. These stainless steel chick pans are made for the professional performer of heavy gauge, highly polished stainless steel which will last a lifetime. They will not rust or tarnish.

Ironically, the instructions for the Viking chick start out with the statement that "all chick pans basically work the same." Well, in a sense this is true, but the difference between this item and those such as the Uday (see my review) is like the difference between night and day. The Viking is a beautiful item, made of solid stainless steel with a mirrored finish. The workings are flawless. The fit is perfect, such that the load pan does not make a sound when in the main pan. The Viking also features a special rim edge that helps conceal the load pan, a feature that Viking claims as its own, now widely copied, innovation. Overall, a beautiful device, even if it costs two to three times more than some of its cheaper competitors.

Two quick caveats. First I was disappointed to note that the presence of rivets in the main pan made it different from the load pan, such that you can only "flash" the inside of the pan. It wasn't as bad as the differences in the Uday, which sports rivets and holes, but it seems like something that a high end manufacturer would have dealt with. Second, the space between the load pan and the main pan is very small, such that if you're using this as a change device, you need to be careful about that you're putting into it.

Overall, this is a fine piece of magic gear you'll be proud to own.
