Canfuse is a one trick DVD put out by Eric Ross and Kevin Parker. The concept of the trick is to link a finger ring onto the pull tab of a soda can. There are many problems with this DVD.
The quality of the DVD is very good. The videography is substandard. It is shot at Kevin’s kitchen table. It is a one camera myopic shot that sometimes leaves Kevin or the thing we are looking at out of frame. Kevin has no script and at times wanders though his words. Kevin also seems quite bored while explaining this, even though he tells us this is a mind blowing trick; he just comes across as a little bored.
I also would like to see the effect performed for a live audience...I mean come on its a one trick DVD. . . give me something here.
Everything is explained and you will understand how to perform the effect but the DVD comes across as lacking polish. On top of all that, this seems to be a reworking of David Harkey’s “Put it on my Tab” from the book “Simply Harkey”. I would add that this Canfuse seems to be an inferior version.
One: In Harkey’s effect a full script is given. No script is given for
Canfuse.
Two: In Harkey’s effect most finger rings could be used. In Canfuse only very, very thin rings can be used.
Three: In Harkey’s effect all you need is a soda can and one extra
something that you can get on the spot making it very impromptu. In Canfuse you will need some magician’s special stuff. (not so impromptu.
Four: In Harkey’s effect the illusion is much more convincing because of how you handle the items.
There is no mention of Harkey’s effect on the DVD.
