Random I-Tunes Song of The Moment: Innocence by Avril Lavigne

Gone Review

Five specially printed cards, 1 streaming video, $23 bucks and Gone Review. Is it gem or is it rubble? Stay tuned to find out.

Effect

Five "random" cards are shown in a small spread. One of the cards vanishes. Then you claim that (while the cards are in the spectator's hands) the other four cards are also Gone. You turn over the cards to reveal the letters "G", "O", "N", "E" — one letter on each card, thus proving your claim to be correct. The cards are Gone.

Method

Some gimmicks and a bit o' sleight of hand. The gimmicks are relatively familiar. You've seen stuff like this before. The moves are also very familiar packet trick moves. You've seen these before too. The hardest part of the routine is actually remembering the orientation of the cards during the set up, and then making sure you turn the cards the correct way throughout each stage of the routine. The actual sleights or moves are pretty easy and well within the grasp of any skill level. The method is legitimate and practical and resets quickly.

The gimmick is such that it hides in plain sight. It's actually, at one point, in the spectator's hand, but the structure and routining is designed such that they will never suspect, let alone detect (thank you Erdnase — whoever you are) that a gimmick is involved. That being the case, there is nothing to ditch, so you end clean in the sense that there's nothing to see. While it's true that they cannot examine one of the cards, they can handle them all.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy makes no unbelievable or misleading claims. It explains the routine as it happens. The video trailer is also an accurate portrayal of the truth. I expect nothing less from Alakazam Magic.

Product Quality

The cards you receive are Bicycle 808 stock and look and feel great. They handle smoothly and work as shown in the video trailer. The training video is hosted at Murphy's Magic and is accessed with a password that comes with the cards. The training is in depth and taught well. Several different handling ideas are taught as well as a few different ways to present the effect.

Final Thoughts

If you've read enough of my reviews, you may notice a trend. Typically, the better the product, the shorter the written review. That is the case here. If you like packet tricks, and you like this effect, you won't be disappointed, and $22.75 ain't a bad price for what you're getting.

Gone Review Final Verdict:
4.5 Stars with a Stone Status of Gem.

GONE is an excellent packet trick that packs a punch. Alakazam presents Daniel Bryan's trick which is easy to do, is inexpensive and comes with an excellent instructional digital download.

In GONE, the performer displays what appears to be a stack of 5 face up cards. One is removed as the stack of cards are turned face down. The one card is then inserted face up into the face down cards. Instantly, that card apparently disappears, leaving 4 face down cards. Then the cards are placed in the spectator's cupped hands and claims that they are GONE. When the spectator opens his hands, to the disappointment of the performer, the 4 cards are still there. BUT WAIT, the cards are then turned over one at a time and the faces of the cards have transformed into individual letters which spell... G..O..N..E! The cards can then be found in your pocket, or not, depending on your presentation.

GONE requires gimmicked cards, which come with the purchase and which have either red or blue bicycle backs. The 32 minutes instructional video is excellent. First, Peter Nardi gives a quick studio instruction and teaches his own patter which is great. Then, Daniel Bryan teaches the trick in a studio setting and shows a few live performances. This trick really knocks out your audience, as you will see. Bryan then teaches some alternate handlings and routines with GONE which are worthwhile.

This trick will require a set-up which takes a few seconds. The reset also only takes a few second. My only small comment to the instructional video is that the set-up demonstration should have been shot from the performers point of view and not facing the spectator's POV.

Although you are never really completely clean and the GONE cards cannot all be inspected, you can put the cards away and go into the next trick quickly and easily.

This is a great value and a great trick. You will no doubt get much use out of this one.
