Overview

I don’t know too many magicians that don’t have a passing interest in other performance art forms. Whether it be music, ventriloquism, juggling or such. Many are also interested in puzzles and games. Just by checking out any magic site you will find items related to the above mentioned side interests. Also in that vein are bar bets, scams and puzzles. Scam School Academy is so appropriately named because each volume in this series is an education on how to fool, befuddle and engage your friends or soon to be friends in almost any social setting. You may even get someone to buy you a drink.

Effect

Scam School Academy is an assortment of puzzles and scams that you can do with ordinary object you would find in most social settings. Using simple props like coins, bills, matches, glasses, cards and other items readily at hand, you can set up an array of mind games and challenges that not only engage the people you are interacting with but make you look like a superstar.

Method

The method varies according to the challenge at hand. While there is no “magic” behind the tricks, make no mistake, they will have to be practiced just as if it is a magic trick. A good memory is advised since the “moves” needed for the puzzles and games included, will require one to memorize procedure as complex as any card trick. The scams and puzzles provided is a nice break from performing actual magic because the participants will be the ones required to figure it out. All you have to do is capitalize on the action.

Product Quality

I love books, and I’m particularly critical on how a book is laid out. Keeping in mind that this is laid out for a much younger audience than me, the quality of the book exceeded my expectations. Over 70 bar bets and scams are explained, illustrated and filmed. For each and every puzzle, there is a written explanation and a URL code for logging onto the computer to watch the actual performance and a QR code. Nothing was left out whether you are an individual who learns from reading or watching. The only negative I found was the type size, saturation and boldness. I found the type was too small to read comfortably and on some pages much to feint to read.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy for the most part is very accurate. As with many magic trick advertisements one has to take certain statements with a grain of salt. Whether one considers this book “the most advanced book on magic ever written”, that is largely opinion.
