I don’t get why magicians are buying, and using, all of these custom decks. I guess I spent too many years as a working pro, where you’d get quizzical looks if you had anything other than Bicycle, Bee or Hoyle cards in your hands.
Of course, as a businessman, I think it’s a brilliant idea on the part of the people producing them. I just don’t think the people buying them are the ones out making a real living with magic (I could be wrong).
That being said, I’m completely in love with this deck and here’s why:
It feels sensuous and expensive. You’re creating interest just by opening the box. First, you pull off the “slip cover,” like the kind you’d find protecting an expensive book. Inside you find a green card case with gold embossing, a beautiful design and a big dollar sign right there in the middle.
Then the box opens from the side, not the top. Again, more intrigue.
The cards themselves have that gorgeous dollar logo on the back and art deco styled faces.
There are only two things I would change, and I realize these are personal. First, I would have made the red cards more red (they’re more like orange). Second, the card stock feels a tad bit bit flimsy, at least compared to the cards I normally work with.
In closing, let me be clear about my point of view. These cards would be perfect for a story. You’d never catch me doing a “normal” trick with them. They call for special attention.
