"Imagine a man whose aim in life is to help others lose their understanding of the world for a few moments, that man is Dominique Duvivier. My friend Dominique is like the spider; he spends his days spinning a powerful, but invisible web of secrets and mysteries. Being trapped in his web is a privilege - he has been watching you with his 100 eyes, knowing what you will think, understanding your next move before you do. He deceives you with his eight arms, reaching around the things you know and believe, approaching you from every side at the same moment. And when he goes in for the kill, there is no use in struggling, you will be fooled. You would be wise to be a little careful, smart to be a little afraid and correct to be very thankful that he chooses to share some of his deadly secrets with the rest of us."

Parlez Vous Francais? Me neither . . . so that means you'll have to watch this with English dubbed over the French. It's kind of hard to focus on the magic . . . a lot of the by play with the audience is definitely lost. From what I can tell, Mr. Duvivier is a really nice guy, and an average magician. Most of his patter consists of "watch how cool I am . . . this trick makes me look good and you look bad . . . you can examine everything." That's pretty much the standard patter for him.

Also, whenever he does a move, it's very obvious. His rhythm and timing shift. You may not know what he did, but you know that he did. Pretty much all of the tricks are not original . . . they are variations on classics - minor variations at that. He was very rushed in his performances. That coupled with the French-to-English translator made it very difficult to watch. I didn't find any effects or twists or ideas that I would be interested in adding to my repertoire. However his effect, Upside Down Mind is pretty decent . . . the effect is; his performance was average. I guess that's the best I can say about this whole project . . . it's average.

The magician is average.

The magic is average.

The performance is average.

The production quality is average.

If you're looking for new ideas . . . skip it. If you're new to magic and are wanting to learn the classics, skip it. Mr. Duvivier is truly a nice guy and would probably be cool to hang and jam with, but I can't recommend this DVD (especially at the asking price of $39.00) when there are so many others that I feel your money would be better spent on. Rubble . . . 2 Stars.
