Alien Autopsy

Jim Pace; Steve Dobson

A-1 Multimedia

(Based on 3 reviews)
Four different coloured alien faces appear and disappear one at a time between pictures of earth and space. Then, with a wave of the hand, the four cards with the aliens change to four "green immigration cards" - then they immediately and magically change into the aliens again this time all four at once! For the finale, all four cards are shown to have changed into photographs of the famous "alien autopsy." Comes complete with full color laminated cards and detailed instructions. Very nice, resets instantly, perfect for table hopping and very entertaining.

Overview

If you like offbeat premises or are looking for a packet trick that does not have Jokers changing to Queens and back again then maybe you would like Alien Autopsy. Alien Autopsy by Jim Pace & Steve Dobson is a quirky packet trick for those performers that are well, quirky.

Effect

The performer sequentially shows four different colored Aliens between pictures of the Earth as seen from outer space. With a quick “wave” the four alien cards turn into four “green cards”. The four “green cards” change back to the four Alien cards and the ending is the four cards then turn into the infamous “Alien autopsy” hoax photo.

Method

The method is simple and within the reach of even a beginner card enthusiast. The only moves required is the Elmsley Count and the Dai Vernon Through the Fist Flourish.

Product Quality

The cards are laminated card stock which should last for years. The images of the Aliens, Earth and “green card” are clip art style images and the image used for the final reveal is a grainy copy of the Alien Autopsy photo you would find online. I personally don’t like the final reveal. It seems anti-climactic and disjointed when shown after the clip art style pictures. The instructions are printed on two 6” x 9” sheets of paper. The instructions are clearly written, have two drawn illustrations and explain the required moves. The provided dialogue is contrived at best, so if you are considering this trick hopefully you can come up with something cleverer.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is accurate is basically describes the trick as it is perceived by the spectators.

I, too, carry this trick around everywhere I go. It really impresses people when I do it and it really is a fun trick to do for other people.

Unfortunately, I do have two small pet peeves about this trick.

The first pet peeve, ironically, concerns the very fact that the cards are laminated. I find that the cards, especially if you're carrying them around in your pocket, have a tendency to stick together. You must be sure to take the cards out of their little wallet and privately check to make sure that the cards aren't sticking together. I usually find that it only takes a minute or so to get them performance ready. Learning how to do the Elmsley count with these cards was a little bit tricky, but mastering it was just a matter of a little bit more practice to make it smooth.

The other pet peeve concerned the poetic patter that came with the trick. I actually ended up throwing out the original patter in favor of my own. Not only did this make the trick easier for me to do in terms of remembering the storyline, but it helped to make the trick unique to me and my performance style.

Other than the two issues mentioned above, which are minor, this really is a great trick well worth investing in.

This effect is the definitive packet card trick and appears to spectators exactly as described! I carry this one with me at all times always ready to slay lay audiences wherever I go. Very well produced with beautiful graphic artwork and clear, concise instructions. Cards are laminated for durability and should last a lifetime. Four face changes from only two sides! Even includes poetic patter for recital during your performance. A great buy!
