Overview
Sponge balls, magicians either love them or hate them. There never seems to be a middle ground. I have seen some really great sponge ball work and there are some lesser known international magicians that actually do amazing routines with sponge balls. The issue with sponge balls is how different can the routine be? Many attempts have been made by making numerous other items in sponge such a rabbits, food items, teeth, marijuana cigarettes and peculiar items that I personally would not use in a mixed crowd or any crowd at all for that matter. Well, Rian Lehman found another use for sponges which he calls Dusty. Effect
The performer borrows a spectator’s phone and proceeds to pull large dust “balls” out of the charging port. This is done repeatedly to produce enough dust balls to segue into your normal sponge ball routine. Method
The method is no different than ringing in any other sponge type of product which is squishing them into small parcels and palming them. Then, on the guise of discovering all the dirt in the charging port of their phone you pull them from you hand which is holding the dust balls against the phone. Product Quality
When you purchase Dusty you get 4 “dust balls” that appear to be made out of the same type of packing foam you get when you purchase electronics. The balls are all different in size and shape and I wouldn’t be surprised if these were hacked from discarded packing foam. The video “instructional” is 4:45 minutes long but the first 45 seconds is intro, so you basically get a 4 minute instruction on how to hold the balls under the phone and pull them out. The final message is after you pull the dust balls from the phone charging port go into your normal routine. That’s it, no routine at all.Ad Copy Integrity
The ad copy is so basic it hardly makes any claims at all. It states you will have the most fun with sponge balls ever (not sure how they can make that claim) and the foam is USA made and hand dyed (also not sure how that adds to the effect, if it’s true at all).
