HEADS UP 2

Wayne Dobson

Alan Wong

(Based on 1 review)
This is one of those effects whose methodology is as good as the trick itself - it will tickle you pink every time you perform it.

It's not entirely new territory for the Dobbmeister - he produced a wallet in conjunction with Alan Wong that contained the wherewithal to do this effect, and Heads Up was one of the routines supplied with his AFW wallet.

But Heads Up 2.0 is cleaner, cheekier and more of a fooler - and more organic with just a post-it note, which is entirely in keeping with the theme of the game that forms the core of the presentation.

You offer to get into a game of 'Forehead Detective'. You know the sort of thing; everyone has the name of a famous person stuck on to their back or forehead in a way that everyone can read the name except them. By asking questions with yes/no answers, everyone has to work out who they are.

A spectator writes any 3-digit number on a post-it note, and sticks it on your forehead: they can read it but you cannot. You reciprocate with a note on his head. When the notes are revealed you chose the same numbers. You could do it with drawings of objects, names....even playing cards. And, because this is Wayne Dobson, there is a comic twist at the end.

Heads Up 2.0 comes with a gimmicked super sticky note pad and a matching sticky note pad (You need both to perform the effect) with video instructions taught in details by Mike Sullivan.

Overview

With this effect you will not only get incredible reactions from your spectators but it also showcases a methodology that's as intriguing as the trick itself. It is a captivating mentalism/mind-reading experience that you will thoroughly enjoy performing and have fun doing it.

Effect

You may remember a party game called 'Forehead Detective’ where participants have the name of a famous person stuck on to their back or forehead in a way that everyone can read the name except them. By asking questions with yes/no answers, everyone has to figure out who they are. Now take it to the next level with Heads Up 2.0. Your spectator writes any 3-digit number, persons name, playing card, simple drawing, etc. on a Post-it note and sticks it on your forehead. At this point they can read it but you cannot. You now reciprocate by writing something on your Post-it and stick it on their forehead. When the notes are revealed, they match perfectly. There is also a comic twist routine at the end that can be used. Using something as organic as a commonly used Post-it note pad draws no usual attention.

Method

This by far is a very easy and simple effect to learn and start performing soon after you watch the tutorial. The gimmick does it all for you and you will certainly be amazed at it’s simplicity. There are no sleights involved with the exception of a minor angle issue. Lighting can be a little bit of an problem which you will understand with your purchase without giving away the ‘secret’. Normal room lighting will not present and issues whatsoever.

Product Quality

Heads Up 2.0 comes with an extremely well made gimmicked Post-it note pad and a matching pad. The ‘gimmick’ will last forever you will just need to refill the normal pads as they are used up from your performances. Each pad supplied comes with about 100 sheets.

Ad Copy Integrity

The print ad is very accurate and depicts what you are being sold and what you will able to perform even though there is no video trailer. The downloadable video tutorial by Mike Sullivan is just over 13 minutes long which is certainly more than enough time to learn this very easy effect. The sound volume is unusually low, just turn it up and all will be good.

Final Thoughts

I have already been performing this a few times already to countless stunning reactions. It has proved to be a very fun end entertaining effect. The price is a little up there but like others, you are paying for the development, concept and idea but well worth it for the reactions you will receive. This effect had much more potential that what you will be taught, get creative.

Suggestions

Please ensure when people are writing or drawing on their Post-it, they are directed to print, not write and do it big and bold. A black dry erasable marker (not thin point) is best as normally it will not bleed through to the other side. Even if it does, just make sure that when you and your spectator place it on each others foreheads, the back of the paper is hidden from view. I have closed my eyes in the process so there is no doubt I did not see anything.
