Lies Playing Cards

"A lie told often enough becomes the truth."

Truth and Lies Playing Cards represents the dual nature of deception and honesty. They are two sides of the same coin, both interwoven deeply within every magic trick. A parade of ornate lies are what spectators are driven to see, while the bare and unembellished truth is ignored and often hidden in plain sight.

Art directed and conceived by Jason Brumbalow and masterfully illustrated by Bobby Haiqalsyah and Lance Miller, Truth and Lies Playing Cards was crafted to remind us of the Lies we share, the Truths we bury, and the duality of both. These playing cards strike the balance between two forces and combines them into a collectible set that blends one design into the next.

You'll be thrilled with the three different versions of Truth decks (each deck having a different embossed phrase on the tuck case), and three different versions of Lies decks (again, each deck having a different embossed phrase on the tuck case). The embossed phrase illustrates that the distinction between truth and lies may not be as clear-cut as you'd think! Your spectators will be fascinated with these decks.

Sometimes the truth is just the lie we tell ourselves, but sometimes true magic can be found in the lies we tell others. Murphy's Magic is proud to present Truth and Lies Playing Cards.

Overview

Murphy's Magic has created a series of decks based on either "Truth" or "Lies" - topics that are familiar to magicians. The art work is all custom with pip graphics that I have not seen before wit the Spades, Clubs and Hearts using circles to comprise the design. The Court Cards are also custom designed and do not look very much like your standard Bikes. This is a very cool looking deck which runs $8.

There are three "Lies" decks and the difference between each deck is that there is a raised and pressed slogan on each deck. This deck says "THE FIRST CASUALTY IS TRUTH” " on the cardboard tuckbox which opens on the side instead of the top like Bikes. The other two decks have the following slogans "NOTHING IS REAL" and "THERE IS NO BEAUTY IN TRUTH".

Effect

Whatever you want it to be because these are playing cards. The deck does come with a double backer and a blank-faced card which you can use for various effects. There are two jokers printed in gold ink depicting a devil hiding his face behind a white mask.

Method

Pop em out of the cardboard tuck box and amaze as you see fit. Like I said above, these are playing cards so there is no specific method to speak of.

Product Quality

The tuck box feels like it was made from recycled cardboard. The back design have a white border with a white back and a gold design in the shape of diamonds with a two way design and an "T" (for "TRUTH") and a "L" (yes for “LIES" on top of the "T").

The pip designs are completely unique and have a very cool graphic for each suit. The Clubs and Spades are in black ink and the Hearts and Diamonds are in a gold color. The Court cards are drawn in gold, gray, black and white. The Ace of Spades is shaped from an ornate design with a large "LIES" running under the Spade.

The two Jokers are described above and display the slogan "NOTHING IS REAL".

The cards are arranged in and Ace through King order for each suit with each Ace starting on the right and the King ending on the left.

I did have some trouble doing a faro with these cards, but hey that's ok. I don’t love the card coating

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy does not make any claims, but just gives the artists take on the meaning and purpose of the slogans.
