I am a sucker for a great self-working card trick. With a little presentational twist and a lot of personality, these suckers can look like real magic! I love looking through old magic books and magazines in hopes of discovering one of these little magical gems.

Mike Maxwell has taken all of the pain out of doing the research. In his “Incredible Self-Working Card Tricks” series, Mike has gathered the best of the best.

The routines shared in this series have been culled from the performing repertoires of magic’s greats. Names like Vernon, Marlo and Scarne have performed the effects that Maxwell shares with you.

On Volume 5 Mike shares a great Cards Across routine and a very cool Spectator Cuts to the Aces effect, plus ten more mysteries.

On Volume 6 Mike shares eleven card effects including a deceptive Lie Speller routine and a groovy Book Test routine.

I would recommend these DVDs to the beginner who is looking for easy to handle card routines that allow the magician to put his/her attention on the audience. I would also recommend these DVDs to the seasoned pro who wants to add a commercial effect to their arsenal.

Some of the card mysteries on these DVDs were new to me and that was a very pleasant surprise. What was more surprising and equally mysterious was Mike Maxwell’s choice of performing attire. Curious? I guess you gotta buy the DVDs to find out what I am talking about.

Great card tricks and daring fashion sense, who could ask for anything more?
