David has clearly put some thought into creating this topit. However, as you will see in the “WHAT I DON’T LIKE” section, I feel like he took previous topits that he has used and made a few improvements to them, rather than coming up with a real “breakthrough” in topits.

But, before we get to what I don’t like, let’s start with the positive: David has developed a topit that presents an additional feature not in most previous topits: the ability to cleverly retrieve something from the topit.

What you get is a black cloth topit that looks a lot like many traditional topits. It’s design is slightly different than other topits. This difference allows for a clever retrieval of a ditched item. The quality of the construction is good, but as you will see below, I’m not crazy about the design.

You need to select “right handed” or “left handed” as they are designed differently for each side of your body. The “right handed” topit goes on the left side of your body and is called “right handed” because you would be ditching items into the topit with your right hand. The “left handed” topit is the opposite.

In the instruction, he teaches methods to use the topit. This part is excellent. He really covers a good assortment of ways to use the topit as well as very detailed pointers on handling and how to use misdirection.

The ad is honest and straight forward, however, here is…

The topit attaches to your jacket, but requires you to pin it to your pants. That means you can’t take off your jacket when performing. It could have easily been designed with a flap that tucks into your pants and give you the option of pinning it or not pinning it.

Also, I tried the topit and found that the design didn’t work so well for me. The design is supposed to allow you to retrieve anything from the topit by reaching behind your back. Reaching behind and removing something from a pocket is something that is commonly done and goes very much unnoticed when you combine it with your other hand reaching forward to show something or grab something. For me, the topit position was too far back for easy handling. I would say that if you are a bit larger than the average person, you may find it harder to use this feature. Without this feature, the topit is really not that good.

Skill level required: 4 of 5.
Audience management skill required: 4 of 5.
Performance angles: 180 degrees
The reset time required: None
The DIY time involved in advance: Maybe an hour or so to prepare the topit and a couple minutes to attach it to your pants.

The topit is designed to allow you to ditch AND retrieve items you have ditched. I applaud Dave for taking the topit to this new level of functionality, but I think the design needs more work.

For the first time ever with David Penn's revolutionary design of Topit...Vanish, Steal & Ditch.

David Penn has lectured all over the world on his natural technique with a Topit. Recognized as a modern master, of this sometimes forgotten utility device, David now presents his evolution of this incredible gimmick - TOPIT 180

With TOPIT 180 you can vanish a small object at any time! This can be presented as an effect or to covertly 'finish clean' after an effect that requires a gimmick.

As described, and shown on the trailer, the very same object can then be retrieved under very little misdirection after it is transited to a holding area, which is all built into TOPIT 180. This very same area can be used to ditch objects covertly giving you so much freedom in your routining.

If you are familiar with a topit you will revel in these new possibilities however if you are new to topitting David covers obsoletely everything in the comprehensive download that you are given access to.

As well as the techniques involving vanishing, stealing and ditching small objects, you will be taught effects with: Metal Bending, Candles, 8 Ball Transformations, Glass Restorations, Coin In Bottle and Salt Pot Vanishes.

TOPIT 180 is the ultimate TOPIT!
