Lennart Green & Dani DaOrtiz

Green, Lennart; DaOrtiz, Dani

(Based on 2 reviews)
In this brand-new two volume set, we are transported to Dani Daortiz's Spanish studio, where he and card legend Lennart Green alternate with astounding tricks. If there is a loose theme to this collection, it is strong card magic that will play to both small and parlor audiences. Very few ever get to sit at a table with Lennart Green or Dani Daortiz. Now, we have that chance!

Dani Daortiz wows us, as usual, with his unique brand of card magic. In "Back at the Time" he allows a card freely dealt at to be torn up, destroyed, and vanished...only to reappear at the exact position in the deck it was removed from!

Dani's "Poker Hand" is a miracle of the simplest, strongest order: a spectator removes any cards from a shuffled deck, and they are revealed to be the four Aces.

Lennart shares all new and rare material, ranging from his intelligent new take on the Numbers Square to his astounding Red-Black deal, where he changes the color of cards AS they are dealt.

The explanations are handled like an informal session, with Dani and Lennart sharing methods with each other...and us. The explanations and filming are clear, simple, and fun to follow along with. Enjoy the nearly three hours of magic these two legends share with us!!!

Overview

L & D, Lennart Green and Dani DaOrtiz is a two DVD set of tricks performed around a card table in Dani DaOrtiz’ house. They seem to have a lot of fun filming what looks like to be a session between friends, but I don’t think you’ll have as much fun watching it. The impromptu nature of these performances is diminished by the apparent lack of structure and preparedness which makes watching it and understanding it extremely difficult.

Effect

L & D is a two DVD set on which there are 8 tricks and a plethora of moves. The video alternates between Green and DaOrtiz in the performances. There are 24 moves covered from false shuffles to the snap deal.

Method

The tricks performed will require such methods as lapping, palming and advanced card moves. This DVD is not for the novice nor the intermediate card magician. Not only will one have to have the patience in learning these techniques but will also need the patience to watch card magic in not so ideal conditions.

Product Quality

I would classify the production quality of this DVD set as poor. As stated before, it looks like a filmed session between friends. The camera is set at one location and the lighting, filming and sound is subpar for the price of this set. Starting with the filming, it was mediocre at best. The definition of the image was not very sharp and the camera was static. The sound cut out at intervals while they were talking and when Green was up they chose to play some annoying jazz music which was distracting. The explanations of the tricks were brief at best. One of the most disturbing things I found about this set was when Green explained the tricks, the explanations were confusing at best. He was constantly corrected himself on misstatements and went off on tangents that had nothing to do with the explanation of the trick at hand. He was routinely grabbing decks of cards, calendars and other items, looking through them and then putting them away. It seemed as if he just showed up and was asked to film something on the fly.

Ad Copy Integrity

Unfortunately, I don’t feel the ad copy is accurate. It was until the next to last statement which reads “The explanations and filming are clear, simple, and fun to follow along with.” I beg to differ, I found it the complete opposite.

This is a great double lecture DVD set from two genius minds in card magic.

The DVD is no frills, but the instruction is never unclear. I can’t imagine a card magic fan NOT learning something to use.

My personal favorite was “Back at the Time” by Dani DaOrtiz. It’s a ‘torn and restored card at any number’ and it’s simple to do, easy for the audience to follow, and very clever.

If you are a fan of either of these men, you will enjoy the magic taught, and will find something to use or practice.
