Micro Card Rise

Solari, Bob

Bob Solari Magic

(Based on 2 reviews)

A person picks a card from the deck. Their card is lost in the deck then, on the magician's word, it vanishes completely from the deck. The magician casts a wry smile and points to his shirt pocket."It's in my pocket!", he announces. With an empty hand he slowly pulls a card from his pocket. The smile fades as audience points out it is the wrong card. Looking at the card the smile appears back on the magician's face. "Oh, I'm sorry. I meant to say your card is in his pocket, pointing to the king." Without saying another word, a micro card is seen rising from the king's vest pocket!

A wonderful animation at your fingertips! Each unit is meticulously hand-crafted by Bob Solari

Overview

This is another nice Solari creation. Only 100 were made and I doubt you could get your hands on one of these babies nowadays, but I did it. I really respected Solari as a creator and found his stuff to be quality.

My recollection is that Bob retired from producing magic a few years ago and if that recollection is incorrect, please let us know, but I could not find this for sale anywhere.

Effect

You have your spectator pick a card (maybe not so freely) and then you tell them that your prediction card is in your pocket. You pull out the King of Hearts and unfortunately it does not match the selected card. But, look closely, the King of Hearts is holding something and it rises and it is a mini card - and it is the selected card.

Method

The method is a specially hand-made card by Solari and you control the speed at which the mini card rises and when it rises. It is very easy to learn and perform, but because of the gimmick, the card cannot be handed out for any inspection whatsoever.

Product Quality

It is an excellent hand-made gimmick. The instructions are a printed page and they are clear and easy to follow.

Ad Copy Integrity

Because I could not find this product for sale anywhere, I cannot assess the ad copy.

One of the current trends in close-up magic, at least in terms of products on the market, is small, visual magic that can be done for a couple of people. The ones who have really thought this out are also suitable for the camera. Not everyone is going to get their own TV show, but YouTube is full of "performances" of these little miracles.

If you're looking for a nice effect in this genre, I can certainly recommend Bob Solari's Micro Card Rise.

The effect is similar to Martin Lewis's Cariographic, but without the need to draw anything. Watch the video; you'll get the idea.

What's most amazing to me is the amount of work in this little gimmick... and only for $30! I think I'd go nuts after making two of them. If you can force a card, you can do this trick.

There's only one drawback, but luckily one that can be easily remedied. You can't hand this card out for examination. If you're working for a camera, nobody cares. But in real life, your audience will want to see that damned card! Luckily for us, there is plenty of literature out there on how to switch out a card.

In fact, I would buy a one-way deck of King of Hearts, and print up some little cards that match the "rising" card, and make up a bunch of giveaways. Hell, I'd even go so far as to put my contact information on the back of the card (a sticky label printed with your business card). Yeah, they'll know it's a sticker when they get home, but that still won't explain the rising part. Of course, in an ideal world you would have custom-printed cards made...
