PROS

The project comes with a couple of gimmicks, one is a variation of the 52 on 1 card, but with a twist. Several really good routines are taught.

There is one routine in particular, “Welcome to the Underbox”, that is, perhaps on it’s own worth the price of the DVD.

CONS

This project is based on 52 on 1, which many magicians may not particularly like. However, this contains a collection of unique 52 on 1 type routines with a unique gimmick that elevates the 52 on 1 from a gag to real magic.

VERDICT

Very nice DVD, nice gimmicks, and good instruction. This elevates the cheesy 52 on 1 plot to a new level of magic.

Suggestions

One of the best effects on the project is called “Welcome to the Underbox”. This is a tremendous routine. However, I think the routine would be even better if it had a different description on the pre-revelation card. Instead of saying “check under the box”, it could say something like “We do magic, not miracles. I’m taking my box of cards and I’m outta here!”
The box would be placed a bit closer to the participant. You pick up the cards and ask the participant to hand you the box and you place the cards in the box. Let the participant see that there is a single card under the box. When they turn over the card, say: “Now that’s a miracle!”

This is going to be another easy review. Big Blind Media has brought us a project with an interesting set of gaffs, and some cool routines to with them. The basic premise is to create powerful effects using the “52 on 1” gaff that usually just ends with a gag. The other gaff included is a double facer, and I can expose this because BBM has taken the ethical approach and told us EXACTLY what gaffs we’re being supplied with.

The actual effects are clean, look natural, and will open you up to the potential these gaffs have in your card magic. While I feel the routines included are best suited for magicians, they are quick and interesting enough to be performed for laymen, though I’m not sure they will appreciate the effects as much as your fellow magic buddies.

I say this because we magicians accept the idea of a “52 on 1” gaff, and laypeople have never seen one of these before. However, the routines are structured so that when the “52 on 1” appears or changes, the heat is now on a different card, and you are able to get the gaff out of play.

The DVD is well shot, well produced, and Gary Jones and Chris Congreave do a fantastic job of performing and explaining the effects. The actual moves are within the range of the average card worker, and the bonus ideas are actually worthwhile.

If you don’t mind using gaffs or gags in an effect, you will enjoy playing with the routines on this DVD.
