Did You EVER Want To Kill A Guy?

Those are the first words of Off With His Head, one of the most effective card tricks you will ever perform for a woman.
  • Four blue-backed Kings are displayed
  • One is elected for slaughter and the spectator shouts "Off With His Head!"
  • A King now has a bloody red back...and it's head is missing
  • It is the selected King.
  • A trick anyone can do...and will want to do over and over.

B’Wave has become a modern classic. I live in the Chicago area, and every magician I know carries this trick in their wallet, or has at some point in the past. Heck, even my girlfriend carries this trick in her purse. She’s not a magician, but because this trick is so easy and packs such a punch, she performs it when people ask if I’ve ever ‘taught’ her anything.

The trick itself is probably as perfect of a magic effect that you can get. Why then, do so many people try to ‘improve’ it? People who add cards, wallets, and moves completely miss the point of this great effect.

So now here comes David Regal with his version called Off With His Head. The effect is almost identical, except for the missing head punched out of the card, and the other three cards are not blank at the end. They are the other three kings. This is ok since it fits the kind of kooky story Regal has woven around this trick.

The instructions are very well written and include color photos. They are great and there is nothing to really complain about here. Regal has put out a high quality product. The heads are die cut out of the cards, which probably explains why the asking price is twenty dollars, whereas the B’Wave effect costs only ten dollars.

I think the issue here is taste. Some people will find this effect fits them better. I actually thought my girlfriend would like this better, since she absolutely adores Alice in Wonderland. She said liked it, but not enough to switch to this version. However she did say it was an interesting enough variation to justify it’s existence. She also said the slightly more complicated handling and extra gaffs made this less appealing.

The end image is different enough from the original effect that it almost changes the effect. In comparison to all the other variations of B’Wave, this is definitely the best, but it is still not better than the original B’Wave in my opinion. I am quite fond of the original and won’t be switching to this version.

However, I do feel that some of you out there may like this version. It may call to you more than the original, or you just want to yell “OFF WITH HIS HEAD” at all of your performances. Watch the demo video, and if you feel this version is worth twice as much money as the original, then you will be happy with your purchase.
