From the creator of Icarus Effect comes this thought provoking, imagination capturing endeavor that will change the way your audience perceives you. Aaron Paterson has once again released one of his most closely guarded secrets to the magic world.

Imagine this...

A spectator's business card is obtained...

That same spectator is asked to think of a playing card out of 52 possibilities...

The performer presents his cell phone camera and takes a picture of his own eye...

The spectator is asked to gaze into the photo eye...

And then...

Something inconceivable happens...

As the spectator gazes into the pupil of the photo eye, a card enigmatically begins to materialize and subsequently dematerialize only to materialize once again a moment later, permanently altering the photo. The spectator is stunned to find that the card in the photo is actually the card they merely thought of a moment ago. The performer is able to seemingly extract the thought of card from the spectators mind and cause it to appear in the photo.

The spectator abruptly departs uttering profanities...

Using the info from the previously obtained business card, the performer actually emails the transformed photo along with his contact info to the spectator from his cell phone (provided his cell phone has that capability). Leaving them his electronic calling card and an unforgettable memory.

Let's start with the phone requirements, because this will not work on every phone. The DVD lists four requirements:

  1. Ability to take digital photographs.

  2. Ability to view video files.

  3. Ability to download files from computer.

  4. Decent size screen.

The last one is more of a performance “desire” than an actual technical requirement. But if you can't meet the first three, don't bother buying this DVD. As a Verizon customer, I'm basically hosed. While I love the service, they make it very difficult to get files from a computer into the phone.

Then we need to talk about the technical requirements for producing the effect. If you know your way around a camcorder and video and graphics editing software, it won't take too much time and effort. Otherwise, you'll have to find someone to help you. I suggest checking a local college or fine arts program.

So, basically, it's a pain in the butt to make into a reality. Is it worth it? If it fits your performing style, then I'd say yes. Not only is the effect interesting, you have a wonderful marketing opportunity to email the final photo to the person that helped you.

The DVD covers video and graphics production in good detail. Even if you're using different software, it should be straightforward.

As a bonus, the author's card force is probably worth the price of this video. And the Bonus Ideas section gives plenty of options for how to use the same principles for slightly different effects.
