THE SECOND GUEST - E-BOOK

"I designed The Second Guest to be a practical, direct method of divining of a spectator's completely free selection from a genuinely shuffled, completely un-gimmicked deck of cards that could be performed virtually anywhere with no prior set up. To that extent, I think I succeeded."
- David Forrest (from the introduction of this manuscript)

Effect

A deck of cards is removed from its case and handed to the spectator for shuffling. It is a genuine, unmarked deck - not gimmicked in any way. The spectator shuffles the cards until he is satisfied and then holds on to them - the performer doesn't touch them again. Drawing attention to the card case, the performer fairly shows it on all sides pointing out that there are clearly no slits or holes to be found anywhere. You turn your back and instruct the spectator to spread the cards face down, push any card from the spread and without looking at it, seal it in the card case. The rest of the deck is then hidden from view and the performer turns back round and begins to concentrate intensely, focusing all his energy on the card case. Bit by bit, he begins to reveal the unknown card. First the colour...black. Then the suit...a Club. And finally, the value...a King, it's the King of Clubs! The spectator is asked to remove the card from the case and sure enough the card inside is none other than the King of Clubs!

The above is merely an example of what is possible with the devious gimmick described within. The Second Guest uses a 100% regular deck that is genuinely shuffled in any fashion by the spectator. No marked cards. No prior set up of the deck. Completely free choice of card which will be different every time. Can be performed at any point in your set - not strictly an opener or closer.

You'll love the action of the 'auto-gimmick' that hides in plain sight until you activate it through the simplest of actions and proceed to devastate the onlookers with your amazing powers of second sight! You will construct the diabolical gimmick in around twenty minutes. Once it's made, it's there for good and can be used over and over again. As always, you will most likely already have everything that you need to construct it but if not the materials are VERY easily acquired!

This is a very clever method of using a card box as a peek device. You can peek a card, something written on a business card, or whatever else might fit into a regular-sized card case.

The method appears to be deceptive. You construct the device yourself, using two identical card boxes (with cellophane).

My only warning is to disregard the PERFORMANCE section of this booklet. The author puts too much focus on the box. If you're going to use this thing, ignore the box. It's a card box… carry your cards in it. That's all the proof the audience should need. Unless you spend a lot of time staring at the box trying to get your peek, I doubt anyone is going to question it.

Spend some extra time erasing the "moment" of the peek from your routine and this could be a very useful tool for you.
