Tumbleweed makes Jokers more wild than ever. With this effect, Brent Braun & Just Andy have taken Dai Vernon's popular Twisting the Aces plot and turned it on its head.

We're not saying that Brent and Andy are smarter, more talented, or better-looking than Vernon, but they did come up with a method to make the twisting effect easier, more visual, and more baffling than ever.

Overview

This is a $15 trick that comes with 4 USPCC cards, one of which is a well known card that all magicians have.

I don't love that the ad copy does not state what the effect is, but the promo video shows the effect. If you love what you see in the promo and you think that is worthwhile then drop your $15 bucks to learn this.

I don't really love what I see - at least not as much as the hyperbolic praise in the ad copy. I think this is over priced and a fun intellectual exercise for magicians. It is not as great for lay people because I think the trick moves too fast and it is too confusing for lay people. They really dont know what they saw and it is not memorable.

Effect

Basically you show 4 cards facing in one directions and then slowly with the twist of the cards, one is facing the other way, then 2, then 3 and then they end up all in the same direction.

Method

Using a common gaffed card and a basic magi count you are able to execute this multi-phase routine. Its not hard to do for anyone that has their basic card skills down.

Product Quality

The cards are standard USPCC cards. There are 3 video. The first 10 minute video is not the main effect and I actually like it better then Tumbleweed because it is easier to follow for lay people. The 2nd eight and a half minute video is the explanation of Tumbleweed and the final 6 minute video is a decent Elmsley Count tutorial. The quality of the video's are middle of the road because they are not produced well, but just shot on a handheld. But, I do like the videos in that they show the Magician's POV. So many videos don't do that, but they had the sense to show what the magician's sees. This is especially important because you need to remember the several phases and card placements.

Overview

This is a really great effect for anyone who already does a Twisting the Aces routine or had wanted to learn it. Four Jokers (and only 4 cards are really used) turn over one at a time. It is easy to learn, easy to do and will have a stunning impact on your audiences. This is great for beginners wanting to learn a Twisting the Aces style routine.

Effect

Centered around the idea that Jokers are wild and using a creative method, "Tumbleweed" makes the twisting effect easier, more visual, and more baffling than ever. Tumbleweed uses just four cards and minimal sleight of hand. A packet of four Jokers turn over one by one, mixing themselves up until your audience's brains are scrambled. Easy to learn and easy to master. You will carry Tumbleweed with you for the rest of your life.

Method

It is not that complicated to do as you are just turning cards over but a knowledge of the Elmsley Count will be needed. If you don’t know how to do it, no worries, there is a complete tutorial teaching you how. There are no angle issues and this effect can be repeated with its reset done very quickly ready for your next performance. The cards cannot be handed out as the Spectator may think that you are using more than four cards but that is not really an issue. There is a way during the performance to actually put the cards on your Spectators outstretched hands to show that there are only four cards in play.

Product Quality

You will receive four Bicycle cards - 3 Jokers and a ’special card’. Due to the quality of these Bicycle cards they will last a long time but as you know the more you use them the faster they will wear out. However that is not a problem, you can make another set. Once you know the ‘secret’ just get other Jokers you have laying around and the ’special card’ which you will undoubtedly have, if not it is very inexpensive to buy. You will receive a link to the online tutorial which consists of over 23 minutes of instructions including a complete section on the Elmsley Count. In addition, you will get very easy to follow, step by step written instructions.

Ad Copy Integrity

Yes, what you read and see is what you get. The ad is very accurate and as always with some practice you will be able to accomplish what you see in the trailer.

Final Thoughts

This is a really great packet trick that does not take up a lot of space so you can have it on you, ready to go at any time. As mentioned it is repeatable with no angle issues so excellent for strolling magic in a crowd as no table/flat surface is need, all done in your hands. I feel that it is a ‘little' overpriced as most magicians will already own the gaff, maybe selling it as a download would be an option for a lesser price. Nonetheless, it is still a good value and an excellent effect that you will certainly get a lot on mileage out of and will blow your audiences away.
