Overview

What makes a good rubber band effect? The truth is they all look great on the trailer or when seen live. In the creators hands they truly looks magical. However, when you enthusiastically buy the DVD or download and work with it at home, it looks anything but magical in your hands. The difficulties lay in the fact that most video instructions are poorly filmed, lit or photographed. Tru by Menny Lindenfeld sets a new standard in rubber band magic.

Effect

The performer wraps a rubber band around his forefinger. With a tug, the rubber band moves over to the next finger. Only after the spectators calm down the band continues on its journey from one finger to the next. Tru is a multiphase routine whereby a rubber band not only travels from one finger to the next of the performers but ultimately ends up on the spectator’s finger.

Method

Obviously rubber band magic falls into the category of topographical magic. It makes use of the elastic properties of the band the create the illusion of moving from finger to finger. This effect is not for the faint of heart as it requires lots of practice.

Product Quality

What sets Tru apart from other rubber band magic instructionals is the pace and photography of the entire procedure. Menny Lindenfeld talks extremely slow and methodically as he takes you through each and every phase. The entire screen is taken up with a close up of his hands. It has to be one of the clearest and cleanest band video I’ve seen. I have a lot of trouble comprehending rubber band instructional videos because of the pace in which they go through the procedure and the camera angles. There is 1.5 hours of instruction that is well lit, very close up and patiently paced. Included with the package are about two dozen Joe Rindfleisch rubber bands, the best in the business.
