Overview

Creative Weekly by Julio Montoro is not what I expected, it is much better. Montoro is not the first on the block to provide a DIY project with an instructional but this is a very nicely assembled package. If you are a gimmick lover and like that quick magic effect and enjoy making the gimmicks yourself, then you will really like this package.

Effect

There a four effects in each release. In this release which is the first in the series he teaches you how to build and perform every effect. In series one, there is a Post-It Note Restoration, a trick with a Polo Pack (Lifesavers for us in the US), a Signed and Torn Bill Effect and finally 3D Drawing Effect. Not to duplicate what is already stated in the ad copy, each effect is clearly explained.

Method

The methods are obviously by the use of gimmicked items. The skill in in the construction of said gimmicks and the handling. Basic skills such as familiarity with the paddle move and rotating and placing shards of paper properly are all that is needed. Audience management is a must for these and most gimmicked props. Angle awareness is a must.

Product Quality

I am duly impressed with the entire package. You will get an attractive and sturdy cardboard envelope. Inside the envelope will be the required gimmicks to build your props. Additional items will be provided by you. For example, he does not provide the Post-It note pad or the candy packs. These will have to be obtained locally. There will also be a card with a link to the instructions. The photography, sound, lighting and pace of the instruction are all very good. It is basically a view of him at a low table with his cutting mat and supplies. He goes through each and every construction at an incredibly easy pace without rushing through. If a camera angle change is needed it is provided. The instructions run a little over one hour and they are in English and easily understood.

Ad Copy Integrity

It is everything that is stated in the ad copy. As stated before, I am very impressed with the attention to detail. The packaging is beautiful and of the best quality. In this particular package you will get 2 small magnets, a piece of black construction paper, 2 coffee stirrers and a piece of black felt plus the Tutorial Card with the link on it.

Final Thoughts

Why do I think this is a great value? For $19.95 he gives you everything you need plus instructions to make four magic effects. Although the gimmicks provided don’t equate to almost $20, you are saved the inconvenience of finding everything you need, buying in bulk, spending time online or in store finding the proper sizes and numerous other time wasting activities. I am looking forward to seeing the next volumes of this release. Well done Julio Montoro!
