Lightning

Peter the Adequate

Cody S. Fisher

(Based on 1 review)
This routine is straight out of Peter's (and Cody's) corporate comedy act. The Lightning Wrist Tie escape is Peter The Adequate's unique version of the wrist tie. This routine is 10 solid minutes with nothing more than a piece of rope and two audience volunteers. The routine is jammed packed with comedy, audience participation, fits in your pocket, and can play for thousands!

On this DVD Peter will share every single detail about his routine. It includes a live performance by Peter The Adequate, interview with Cody Fisher, step-by-step teaching guide, and years of advice and performance tips. This is NOT your standard "in and out" comedy wrist tie. Peter's unique version is a REAL ESCAPE!

BONUS PDF: Cody Fisher's Lightning Wrist Tie / Stand Up Card To Wallet

As an added bonus a very special PDF is included with the DVD. Cody has combined the Lightning Wrist Tie with his never before published Stand-Up Card To Wallet routine. The PDF includes Cody's full routine including word-for-word comedy script, stage cues, music cues, and variations for performing this for family shows, corporate events, and even comedy clubs! If you liked Cody's previous stand up releases, you are going to LOVE this!

PROS

This is a great set of routines involving a very simple rope handling. I say set of routines because Peter presents his routine and thoroughly explains it. As a bonus, there is a PDF from Cody Fisher with a written explanation of his routine, very different from Peter’s, both very good.

One of the things I really like about these routines is they both present examples of very entertaining routines, complete with comedy bits, staging instructions, and everything. So much in magic is about how you interact with the audience, from who you bring up to work with to where you position them, to how you communicate with them, both verbally and non-verbally. Anyone learning from this DVD should adapt Steve or Cody’s presentation to be their own, but you have two great starting points. You can take either routine and decide to add things to it, take things out, change the bits of humor, etc. Cody’s routine is an example of how he took Steve’s original routine and changed it up a bit to be both a card and rope trick routine

One of the great values of this DVD is Steve and Cody walk you through when to perform this sort of effect and why it is structured the way it is. The routines involve specific scripting before you get into the actual rope escape effect and they explain why that is critical to a successful routine.

What you get with this is simply a DVD. There are no gimmicks. To do Steve’s routine, all you will need is around four or five feet of rope, a pair of scissors, and a jacket or large handkerchief. For Cody’ routine you will need rope, cards, and any card to wallet device. The DVD is well made. The video and audio are very clear and it is easy to follow.

The methods described are very easy AND very effective. In the handling of the rope effect he shows a live presentation and then explains not only how to do each step, but why each step is important in creating a very entertaining routine. All the moves are very easy and could be accomplished by even a beginner magician with just a bit of practice.

The entire effect is angle free. You could perform this completely surrounded. However, the routines described by both Steve and Cody involve an audience with two participants coming up to the front to perform with the magician.

The ad is pretty fair and honest. However, you should note that the add says all you need is a piece of rope and an audience. You will also need a jacket or handkerchief and a pair of scissors if you are going to do Steve’s routine and if you do Cody’s routine, you will need a deck of cards and any card to wallet prop.

CONS

There really aren’t a lot of negatives with this one. You should know that what you get is just the DVD. You will need to get rope and a pair of scissors for Steve’s routine and any card to wallet for Cody’s routine. You could try different types of rope, but you may find that some work better than others. The inexpensive magician’s rope works well.

One more note: While the rope escape effect is simple and easy to do, and it is very easy to get out of the rope, it is not an effect where you can get your hands back into the rope once you are out. So, one potential downside is you can’t create a comedy routine where you repeatedly get out of the rope and then back in. Once you are out, you are out.

AT A GLANCE

The skill level required: 2 of 5.
Audience management skill required: 2 of 5.
Performance angles: 360 degrees
The reset time required: None
The DIY time involved in advance: None once you have the needed props

VERDICT

This is a great effect and a couple great routines. What is new with this over the tons of other rope escape effects? In most rope escape tricks, the magician spends a lot of time selling the audience on how well they are tied and how impossible it would be to escape and then the escape happens in a split second. The “selling” of the effect is often pretty long and dull. With these routines, that portion is done with a lot of humor to keep the audience entertained. Also, the mechanics of the effect are very simple and the only device you need for the rope escape is a rope.
